Comcast wants me to pay for season 1. Is S2 easy to jump into and not be all confused?

I'm finding this to be the show on my dvr that is last to be watched.  I am real close to giving up on it. It is really cliche in a lot of boring ways once you get past the change in how vamps work.
2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.
