I just got a Logitech G600 mouse.  I'm having such a tough time using it.  I keep clicking on so many buttons that I shouldn't be clicking on.  It's so sensitive.  And it has that funny little clicker on the right side that I keep pressing.  Anyway, have I made a mistake?  Has anyone become used to all these touchy buttons?  If so... HOW???  I'm thinking of returning it and getting a mouse from the fucking dollar store or something.  Should I?  Or is it awesome enough to keep?  It was on sale!!!

Multi-button mouses are an acquired taste and take time getting used to. Personally I never could do it and I'm sticking with razer abyssus that has just 2 buttons and a wheel  (+2 switches at the bottom of the mouse to change sensitivity and polling)

I find the deathadder a nice compromise.  Standard 3 button mouse with two side buttons.

+1 on the deathadder. Some of my friends swear by the naga (are there similar mice with an entire numpad on the side?), but that's too heavy and MMO-y to me. Side buttons work great in FPS, too!

(also, this thread has a dangerous name. What happens if the cat thread decides to peek over from general discussion!?)

I tried a razer that was like that and the thumb buttons kept getting in the way of my grip.

I use a Logitech MX 518 and it's fine. Sometimes wish it had a few more buttons, but since everyone puts buttons in places that don't work for me, I guess I stick with simple.

I love the way the thumb buttons are up off the recess. I've always liked Logitech's aggressive thumb rest and lip for the ring and pinky on the other side.

I have a Naga but discovered that I don't have enough mobility in my thumb to use the buttons effectively.  If it ever dies I'll go for something like the Death Adder.

I love my Naga.  I use it for work as well as gaming.  The thumb numpad took a little getting used to, but now it's hard to imagine not having it.

This is the mouse I use at home and work. I have been using it for years and is honestly the best mouse I have ever used.
I know its simple, and it does not have super uber dpi but it lasts for ever, super comfortable and is just right.

I have a Naga as well and it took a couple of weeks to get used to the thumb buttons, but now I wouldn't know what to do without them. I'm the same as Runvaldt - use it for both gaming and work.

I love my Death Adder - I don't really use the side buttons for gaming, more for web browsing. I also have a Razer Orochi, which is basically the mobile version - performs great, and I have no issues playing WoT with it when on the go.

Though, I should add that both of these mice fit my hand perfectly, so YMMV.

I have the Cyborg RAT 7. Great mouse and very customisable for different hand sizes and grip styles. It has two side buttons, a side scroll as well as a regular scroll wheel and a sensitivity control.

I had a Death Adder which I was very used to but my sister took it off me.  I had to let her as it's completely my fault that she's become a gaming addict in her dotage.  I got this G600 to use for Secret World and some stuff like BLOPS2.  I'll give it a couple of weeks before I decide.  Just wondering if I made some sort of horrible mistake.  I'd be happy with another Death Adder or some of the others mentioned here.  Dunno why I didn't just get another in the first place.  Because I'm insane and have to make everything so complicated!

Call me a luddite, but I've never been happy with anything but a basic Microsoft or Logitech two-button-plus-wheel mouse. They're cheap and reliable.

I had a mouse with side buttons at ZOS, and I was constantly losing work because I'd hit one of them and it would go forward or back or close something.

I have an ancient Logitech MX510 and I love it. I could see moving to something with a couple of extra buttons when it dies, but for now I am content.

I'm another one in the 518 column with Sky. Great mouse, and it is easy to clean the cat hair out of the laser opening.  why so serious?

If you want the extra buttons for The Secret World the Razer Naga Hex may be a better compromise as it has fewer side buttons (you don't need that many for TSW) and it has a place to rest your thumb in the middle. Another mouse with extra side buttons but has a place to rest your thumb is the Corsair Vengeance M95.

MX518 here as well. I've tried a couple of Razer products (mamba, naga, deathadder) but just did not like any of them. The only time I would prefer a Razer would be the Naga over a Logitech G600

For those using Razers - how is the Synapse? I heard they updated the offline mode to be better but am still hearing about issues with it

That's what I need!  Some place to stick my thumb!  They should use that for marketing... "We give you a place to stick your thumb".  People like me will know exactly what that means!

The pinky tray is a modular part that you can swap the right sidepanel of the mouse for.

The Logitech is the mouse that I use for SWTOR. Trying to use ctrl+ while pvping is more than I can handle. As it is, I sometimes hit capslock when I should hit tab.  why so serious?  I hit some buttons on accident, but I think this way is better overall for me

Sadly not for some time now. It's now been replaced with the G400. I use one at work, and it's been fine there for about a year now. Exact same shell shape, G400 has a thinner wire but 2x DPI of a 518.

When my MX518 at home finally dies I'll probably try to get creative and switch the shells with the G400 I have (my backup mouse still packaged and collecting dust until the 518 dies) if I can, since I prefer the grey and less rubbery feel. Other than the rubber grip (really not as bad as it sounds) and the thinner cord it really is a very true and good successor.

I wish I had a nice store where I could try palming these before buying.  I usually go logitech but it seems like every single one I buy doesn't consider the mouse wheel click the middle button by default, have to screw around.

If it's for gaming I find a nice keyboard with extra programmable keys is better than a mouse with way too many damn buttons.

Weird. I have always had the scroll wheel button recognized as the middle button without fail on every Logitech mouse I have had, without screwing around.

If you install the Logitech MouseWare/SetPoint drivers the middle mouse button by default becomes their special "universal scroll" button. It's easy enough to change it back to the middle button, though.

Does their software still suck donkey balls? When I tried it with a CM Sentinal it was the worst software I've ever seen for a mouse. It didnt stay resident and every time you ran it it set your mouse speed to retardedly slow. Just horrible design.
If the Spawn is anything like the Sentinal it's a large hands only mouse as well. Way too big for my hands.

Naga Hex seemed like a reasonable compromise between the 'too many buttons' of the full Naga and not enough buttons of simple mice.  It was eye-opening, and the center peg is a rubbery resting point for your thumb in the central position of the hexagonal button arrangement - easy to recenter without looking down.

6 extra buttons is plenty for many games, and it really cuts down on hand travel when you are running mouse+keyboard.  The cloudy-online only configuration software sucks however, this will be my last Razer due to that.  I don't want a forced update loop or network connection just to use my mouse, thanks.

I have an old Logitech G5, which is nicest mouse I've ever used. The shape is perfect for my hand, it's got a few removable weights, a really nice wheel, a long cloth-covered cable and a single thumb button. They've not made it for a while now so I am afeared of the day it finally breaks or becomes too filthy to use any more.
