A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

I still contend that trying to embed real games into web browsers is a terrible fucking idea.

Make of that what you will.

If it would work my iPad then it wouldn't be so bad. But of course it doesn't do yes, terrible idea.

Possibly time to move this to the subforum nobody reads for shitty web games nobody plays.

Will be fascinated to see their pricing scheme, because I suspect people will not expect a web game to have fat client prices.

I totally think both Mechwarrior Tactics and Banner Saga Factions will make great game for our "boardgame" subforum. f13 Leagues and all that. Hard not to be annoyed at the browser interface so far though.

New "official" trailer up.

I recently gave this another look (after all, I paid for it) and I must say it MIGHT have a chance. I still feel bad about the collection/rng part of it, that is just not BattleTech, but they improved many subtle things and I realized after a couple of games that the competitive and tactical aspects of the old Fasa tabletop were starting to kick in. You might want to take a distracted peek at this two hours video  where the guy from No Guts No Galaxy and IGP Community Manager Garth Erlam square off on a couple of matches.

As I said my first impression a few months ago was TERRIBLE. New test is much more responsive, informative, and all around potentially fun. It is  still not what we were looking for, but it might stand a chance, especially considering it is still in _closed_ beta so they have a long way to go.

Apparently the Total Biscuit guy and the Angry Joe guy are loving it. Or have been paid good money to enthusiastically pretend for over two hours.

I gave this another try today and it is much more playable than it was back when they launched their Founders program.  It is pretty good at scratching the battletech board game itch but the collectible aspect is annoying.

NECRO!

IGP (not PGI) went belly up, and the game is over. Webpages don't even exist anymore, not a word nor an explanation or an apology. This one never left beta state and people just lost the money they invested in it. Me included, yeah.

From the Wikipedia page:

Quote
In late August 2014, Blue Lizard Games (cited on the game's website as its' present developer) has stated the company had no involvement with MechWarrior Tactics' development since December 2013: "[...]unfortunately our development contract on MWT was cancelled in December last year. Please contact IGP for updates."[2]

Since August 28, 2014 the official website's main page was with no prior warning replaced with a customized Cloudflare HTTP 500 error page stating the website is unavailable due to a 72-hour "extended maintenance" window due to a hardware upgrade.

This led players to attempt contact with IGP in order to demand status updates on the game or request refunds on their Founder Program payments.[3]

Throughout 2013 and 2014 IGP has continued selling Founder Program packages and marketing the game as under development and scheduled for Open Beta "later this year".[4]

Due to these practices continuing in absence of development progress, accusations of scam have been directed at IGP. The discovery that a major portion of the company employees have left their employ has also prompted theories that Infinite Games Publishing may be shutting down.[5]

As of September 18, members of the game's fanbase have managed to obtain a response from Infinite Games Publishing through the company's former CEO Kelly Zmak, stating the game "will be offline for a while longer" but it is not cancelled and "IGP is seeking a new partner/developer and a new hosting location for the game", although with no definite timeline.[6] As of September 20, the message on the game's website has been updated to reflect that statement.[7]

As of 26 November 2014, neither mwtactics.com nor infinitegamepublishing.com resolve, indicating that the last servers of both the game and the publisher have been shut down.

Just as a reminder, this is Mechwarrior Tactics, the enhanced boardgame version, not Mechwarrior Online, the FPS which is alive and well.

I didn't spend any money, thankfully. I played in early beta maybe a year ago(?) and it was fucking dreadful. I never checked back in on it.

The web-based flash UI killed any interest in trying it beyond that.

Are they even allowed to do this? Is the licensing arrangement for the MW brand transferable?

Depends on the specific contract but typically, no. It was drawn up between GW and an entity that no longer exists. It'd be like trying to marry a corpse.

But why start being competent now, at the end of your company?

The assets are still sellable, they just might not be able to use many of them without negotiating a new deal.

Seems somehow appropriate that it is up for sale immediately alongside a 2009 Hyundai Tucson.
