Is STO a one-server game? Also, I'd be happy to join the Bat Country fleet if one exists or is forming. I've been playing a little again and am quite pleasantly surprised by how the game is now compared to launch.

It's one server, but each zone can have multiple instances.  You can travel freely between them.

I'm usually on in the evening, after 6pm CST.  Anyone interested in helping to form Bat Quadrant can email me in game @Rishathra, and we can set up a time when at least five of us can be on.  I'm also always happy to help kit out newbies.

See? Call me crazy, but the "One server" thing alone could make me play this for a while. Tempted to redownload right now.

I don't tend to check my in-game mail.  If you get a consensus I should be available this weekend to log in long enough to help.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

I'll help form it. My highest level is only LC 16 or so but I'd love to help out. I am, @Riggswolfe if you want to mail me in game. I can be on most anytime after 5pm Central so just let me know.

I'll help form it too, my Admiral and Captain are both fleetless at the moment.

So how does tonight sound for the formation of Bat Quadrant?  If not today, tomorrow or Sunday are both fine, but I probably won't be available until after 9pm CST on Saturday.

I can get on. If we need numbers my wife also is playing again so I can get her to log on if you need another. I'm not sure what the minimum number is to form a fleet.

It's five, but if we're short I can always bribe someone hanging around ESD to come help and then kick them out after.

I'm about to eat dinner and watch a show with the wife but we can get on after that long enough to form the fleet though tonight she wants to play LOTRO instead of STO. I'd say we'll be around in about an hour.

Bat Quadrant now exists!  In fine f13 tradition, I predict that nobody here will ever log in again.   why so serious?

For anyone wishing to break tradition, let @Riggswolfe or @Rishathra know and we'll invite you in.

Does anyone know roughly how many fleet projects are needed to advance a single career tier (as in Tactical tier not overall starbase tier)?

Ten.

Which reminds me... Bat Quadrant HQ is happily accepting donations of tactical or security common doffs, and fleet marks.  Once the blast shields are raised, I will throw some pics up.

Thanks

Blast shields only need dilithium (200k IIRC) and you only have to start another project to begin the blast shield one, doesnt need to be finished

Just bad formatting on my part.  The two sentences are not meant to be directly related.

I've been playing this for the last couple of weeks with a few friends.

Enjoying it a surprising amount! It's very MMO-lite, not punishing, quite a lot of fun, and even has a sense of humour. The F2P side of it isn't badly done either, although I think the C-Store prices for a lot of things are too high. They'd be better served IMO by making things like respec tokens, clothing, bag slots a bit cheaper and selling more of them.

I don't know what the end game is like - although I am mostly of the opinion nowadays that the entire concept of "the endgame" in any game is simply stupid, so I'm not bothered if it's the usual MMO grind fest, I'll just not partake in that.

Unless it's changed a lot, endgame is pretty playable as a freebie, but you're in for a literal months-long grind of dilithium to afford a single post-level-40 ship unless you're willing to open your wallet and pay Cryptic's outlandish prices.

You're not missing an awful lot if you just hit 50, piddle around with the Borg stuff a little, and then quit.

Stopped playing this a few weeks back after checking it out for all the changes they made and they've improved a whole lot.
Was fun for a month and a half of very casual play and I agree that the f2p is very painless.
I would've easily tossed 'em  € 5-10 for a ship or 2, but € 15 for a single ship? Ridiculous.
Although top tier ships are basically the same power-wise as the previous free tier but with the skin of a levelling ship, so not in any way needed to do some endgame borg shenanigans.

Also: the 'buy a key for a 98% chance to get a dick in a box' thing is such a cynical and slightly annoying moneygrab, I'd feel a little dirty positively reinforcing that kind of behaviour in any way with my wallet.

You're not missing an awful lot if you just hit 50, piddle around with the Borg stuff a little, and then quit.

Which is what I did as well.

The "so and so opened a box and found a thing!" spam when they were first introduced was what actually got me to quit the game last time I did. You saw it literally everywhere, as it was a global alert message; I got sick of seeing it, so I logged out, ostensibly to come back once the fervor around them had died down, but I never did. I know they've since added the option to disable those popups, but I still have no pressing desire to return.

Yeah I don't like the lockbox method of income generation. It's like scratchcards - dangerously addictive for some people. One of our fleet spent about £40 on them to get a Tholian Recluse, but he seems to have managed to stop once he got the ship. I saw someone in the Doffjobs channel the other day saying they'd spent $300 on them and not got the ship he was after.

I don't mind the cost of the ships too much - I probably won't get more than 1 or two. Plus, I've got 4 characters (my usual altitis kicking in) and just from doing doff missions and foundry instants each day I'll probably pull in enough dilithium to get something like 1000 Zen a month without spending another penny :)

Edit: forgot to ask - are the rewards for ground STFs really crap for the time invested or are we just doing them wrong? We had a go at the Borg stuff on Defera last night and it took *ages* for like... 6 fleet marks :/

No idea. It's been so long since I've done them, but each one used to outright award a piece of Borg ship gear.

Fleet marks are a bonus reward for Defera that you only earn during the fleet events.  If you want to grind fleet marks specifically, you are better off doing other things.

Gotcha, cheers.

I think we had a few problems with Defera... it was late, 3 out of the 4 of us were drunk, we had crappy gear and we didn't know wtf we were doing, so describing it as a "less than optimal group" is being very kind.  why so serious?

Couple of us accidentally did Khitomer Accord Ground yesterday (as in I queued us for the wrong thing) and it was quite fun, if a bit hectic. Oh and in a similar vein I accidentally took my fed tact character into a Cure Space Elite, which was far less terrifying than I thought it would be!

Hoping to have a Fleet one in a week or so, if I can scrape enough dil together by the time the starbase module finishes :)

I actually fond just grinding the cash for a recluse carrier to be a lot better than spending dill on keys. Well, actually I did, but I sold the keys which went a long way to buying the carrier. Am I bad for taking advantage of peoples addictions?

BEHOLD

Bat Quadrant is currently in possession of a tier 1 starbase, with a tier 1 shipyard (stocked) and communications array.  The transwarp gate will be online tomorrow, and the tier 1 industrial fabricator should be complete within a few days.

After that, I'm going to work on getting a tier 2 shipyard, and then the tier 2 starbase.  Once those and the associated upgrades are complete, I think I'm going to call it a day.  One person, sufficiently stockpiled through years of play, can get this far, but the tier 3 stuff is just way too expensive to do alone, at least while maintaining interest and/or sanity.  If anyone wants to get a ship, let me know and I'll grant the proper permissions.

Right now?  Nothing.  Although feel free to contribute to whatever projects are running of course.  Over the long term, the base will need hordes of common duty officers, dilithium, and fleet marks.
