I liked the idea of the game, but this comic illustrates almost perfectly my major problem with the game.  The controls feel very...awkward...for me.  Even so I don't regret buying it cause I got it on a sale myself a long time ago, but I haven't managed to ever finish it.

So the comic illustrates that the game can actually be challanging instead of just pushing one button and having the game do it all for you?  swamp poop

Different strokes. I hate platforming games in general (never played Mirrors Edge) because dying to jumping is very frustrating to me. However, the movement in the Assassin's Creed series has always felt fluid and "cool" without too many 'FUCK CATCH THE LEDGE NO GODDAMMIT RELOAD" moments.

Personally, I disliked Mirror's Edge because I had to press a button to turn around 180 degrees. That's what I'm used to using a mouse for.

This.  Not worth the chance that this is an entire game of this.  I'm near burn out with this on Zelda Darksiders right now. (Another daily pick I did.)

Mirror's Edge is very much a platformer, meaning that mastering the controls and the timing and all that to navigate an obstacle-laden environment full of tricky jumping puzzles is the game.  You can't compare it to something like, say, Prototype, where the parkour is essentially a visual effect added to an entirely different game (you could just as easily have all of the "obstacles" noclip and the game would play exactly the same way).

I just wish Mirror's Edge didn't have any enemies in it.

I actually got the "Test of Faith" trophy for finishing the game with no gun usage.   Ohhhhh, I see.  There was only one part (at the VERY end) where it was obnoxiously difficult.  Mostly it was a fun challenge to try to do stuff like the fancy wallrun/kick/disarm combo.

Alpha Protocol for 3$.... I probably should just give into temptation and try the thing out. Which means add it to the backlog of games in practice, but still.

It's worth $2, even if you hate it.  It was one of my favorite games I played in the last year, and I personally think it's still better than Deus Ex, having played through both.  I did however play the console version of both, not the pc versions, so I don't know how the ports stand.  For me, it being $2 and less than the price they have for space siege is kinda silly, or maybe it's silly that they think space siege is worth $7 on sale.

It's the Obsidian version of Deus Ex in many ways (not sci-fi, obviously). So, expect better writing but more derpy gameplay. There are some pretty frustrating moments with the interface on the PC version.

Given I just played Deus Ex and adored it (good writing ages well) that pretty much confirms it :)

To be fair, you might want a controller vs keyboard/mouse from what I remember reading way back.  Most of the bugs, the ones that weren't actual game design issues at least, were fixed a long while back.

At $2, it's nearly free just to see what they did there that was so different from most other shooters, even with some of the weird design issues.  I honestly have to recommend this to anyone that liked Deus Ex, despite my crazed taste in games.  It's one of the very few games since I was a teenager in the 90s that I seriously considered a second play through immediately after the first.  Your choices have actual consequences on the story, unlike deus ex.

I'd say Aliens vs. Predator is worth $5, but just barely.  Playing as a marine was ACK!.

Mouse + kb is fine, but you have to really tweak some files heavily to get it playable.  Game is probably fine with thumbsticks, but it can lean a little action heavy in parts.  It also has very retarded boss fights.  The stealth aspects kinda work.

Game showed some real flashes of brilliance here and there despite being pretty far off their initial vision for it.  I've heard it was supposed to be more James Bond but veered closer to Jack Bauer.   Still, the game reacting heavily to how you play it and the decisions you make works rather well here.

Still, it's only about 15 hours long, not overly hard and has some truly memorable moments.  Some very good voice acting (HELLO AGAIN NOLAN NORTH) and great if not a bit cartoony characters.   It was very much worth a play.  Glad I did, and I think I may have paid a whole 7.50 for it.  Hell, I would have been satisfied if I had paid $20 for it.  Full price? I would have put my fist through a wall.

Get Rome Gold and Medieval 2 Gold.

I think you'll love those and be out like $10

EDIT: Start with Rome and play the imperial campaign as the Julii first to get the full experience, IMO. Then, you can decide to play one of the other factions.

With Medieval 2, I recommend starting as England first since they have the best starting location. Don't start as one of the Italian nations. They get fucked early if you don't know how the flow goes.

I really enjoyed playing the Brutii.  The campaign to conquer Greece for the Glory of Rome was a long drawn out epic fight.  Most fun and most challenging campaign I've had in any Total War game to date.  And oh was it so sweet to see Sparta finally burn.

Company of Heroes series complete back for 10 bucks.  2 bucks for the base game.  If you've never played it, its very good and worth playing.  Its similar to Dawn of War 2 (uses the same engine), but I like the single player in this more.

As for the Total War games, I've loved all of them, though most people hate Empire (I think I like it more for the time period than superior gameplay). The Napoleon one takes all the beautiful graphics of the Empire but with working campaign mechanics and better AI.

Are they strat war games or what? Its been awhile since Ive played a good strat war game.
Also is it all solo, or do they offer coop or multi play?

They are single games, TBS campaign maps where you control each battle on a RTS 3d map.

They are, in my opinion, the best strategy games ever designed.

 Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Will add them to my Steam download list.

BTW I dont remember Pirates being so god awful easy to beat/win at. Downloaded Sid Meir's Pirates for nostalgia's sake. Its so easy there is no challenge.

Yeah it really is unchallenging.

I'm not in agreement with Paelos on the best strategy game ever side (WHAT A SHOCK  why so serious?) but give at least one of them a chance, it may float your boat.
