And then you get your hot dog suit and go on a murderous rampage as well as cover half the city in sewage, and then you get a helicopter and blow up the defenses on a large building, and then you LAND the helicopter through the side of the building on the top floor and kill the CEO. Yep, sounds about right.

Your criticisms are selling the game to me more effectively than anything else has so far, Bhodi. I think I may have to pick it up once I burn out on MvC3.

Come to think of it, this is the same reason I didn't like Just 'Cause 2. Way to go hero, you just destroyed a village's only source of water! You really freed them from the oppression of uh, random dictator #2. I guess I got the whole "Sit on a parking garage and snipe anything that moves in GTA" out of my system a while ago. Mindless action just doesn't do much for me anymore, especially not with a lousy-ported console control scheme.

You have yet to successfully rebut the sewage cannon and insurance fraud, so your opinion is null and void GOOD DAY SIR.
Edit: also if you haven't ever used the Bear in SR2 then you're missing out on something joyous.

Scans of the GI issue have been leaked. - Saints Row 3 starts with a bungled heist that sees the majority of the gang jailed. This raises the ire of a new gang, the Syndicate, which holds you and your closest allies prisoner on a jet. The gang wants to squeeze a percentage of the Saints' monthly profits, which of course leads to a fight and causes your character to jump out of the jet. That's how the Saints roll. - Johnny Gat and Shaundi, two of your major allies from Saints Row 2, will be returning as accomplices. - Weapons can now be upgraded. For example, you can fit sniper scopes and under-barrel grenade launchers to the assault rifle. - Another character is Oleg, an eight-foot-tall monster of a man that can toss cars around. The Syndicate attempts to clone him, but science goes wrong and creates a bunch of dumb copies. These will show up as new enemy types in the game. - A new RC gun lets you shoot an electronic bug that can control vehicles remotely. You will be able to upgrade it to control tanks and air transport. - Three new gangs: Morning Star, which model themselves after masked wrestlers. The Deckers, computer nerds into money laundering and security. STAG, a government-sanctioned group designed to destroy other gangs. - Missions can be completed in multiple ways. For instance, you could blow up an important skyscraper, or take the building over. Another example if stealing a Morning Star boat full of prostitutes -- you can sell the boat back to the gang, or keep it and pimp the girls yourself for profit. - A traditional leveling system has been included this time. Your Respect gauge now works like experience points. You'll rank up with increased respect, and kit out your character with new perks and weapons. Player choice will be paramount. You'll also earn points to make yourself skinnier or fatter, similar to GTA: San Andreas. - Cars can be upgraded with more features this time. Various aesthetic and performance tweaks will be offered, such as durable bumpers, extra speed, oversized spoilers and colored underglows. More costume options for the player character are, of course, available. Confirmed costumes include space suits, cowboys/cowgirls, cheerleaders, mexican wrestlers, superheroes, pirates, ninjas, and furries. - New weapons include a giant dildo and tactical airstrikes. That is the most extreme spectrum I've seen. - Every single weapon has included a specific animation for nut shots. With a pistol, you'll drop to a knee and whip the gun into the fruits. With a bazooka, you'll take a full golf swing at the tender portions. - The button for sprinting has been dubbed the AWESOME button because, in contextual situations, it will make your character do cool things. For example, if you sprint to a car, you'll do a missile dropkick through the window to hijack cars more efficiently. - Confirmed Activity side-missions include: Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax, a Japanese game show full of dangerous stunts and, I'm sure, plenty of charming racism. Tank Mayhem, in which you use a tank to destroy specific high value targets. Guardian Angel, where you must drive carefully around town with a tiger in the back of your car. - As earlier stated, online multiplayer has been killed off, but the co-op remains intact.

I've tentatively slotted SR2 (with gameplay fixes, GotR etc) after I finish F:NV, which is starting to drag a bit.
Hey Sky, If you want to do some coop, just let me know. I am a hugh fan of this series, and I will always make some time for SR2 coop. *Fake Edit* Crap, I just realized you are playing the PC version, not the xbox version.

It just seemed so dumb. I wake up from a coma, everything I had is gone, and the first thing I do is just charge what amounts to a heavily armed fortress without any attempt at stealth or even building up a basic base of operations, any intelligence, or really anything at all. Using the pistol I got from a prison guard, that I had escaped from an hour ago.
Your forgetting that they walked right past security carrying guns(it's possible to have a few gun types before that mission). But that didn't stop the fun!

I would be down for doing Co-Op too. I specifically avoided activities because I had it in my head to wait until I could do it Co-Op. I never got around to it due to the difficulty with which I had getting into someone else's game.

I expected to like SR2 but couldn't get into it at all. The controls and graphics felt really rough compared to even the early GTA installments, to the point where it distracted me from the fun. What I really want is something with the technical polish of GTA4 but the fun factor of GTA:VC.

How are the controls compared to SR1, or haven't you tried that one?
It's the one thing that turned me off of SR1 the first time.

Haven't tried SR1. My main point of reference was the GTA series.

Did you play it on PC Sam? Everything I heard was that the PC port was a travesty. It played very smoothly for me on the 360.
I described SR2 to friends as a blatant GTA ripoff, that was smart enough to only include the fun parts.

See, I enjoyed the heck out of GTA4. To me the only annoying thing was having to constantly turn off the cell phone, otherwise it was a great game. I had a similar experience to Sam's, the controls for SR2 turned me off. I spent 30 seconds driving a car after the prison break and quit the game, uninstall.
Though I'm giving it another shot, it's downloading (almost 12GB, heh) on steam. I'll put in the GotR stuff and the tweaks and see what happens. I'm not optimistic.

I played it on the PS3 (for about a minute, like Sky... the controls were that annoying). I actually thought about getting it on the PC for cheap to see if it was any better there, but then I also heard bad things about the PC port.

I wouldn't be surprised if SR1 and SR2 had roughly the same controls, in which case it's probably not worth it for me to go out and buy SR2 now.

The SR2 PC port runs just fine here. I'm not sure what the issue is. Am I just lucky? Runs at max v-synced framerate with all graphics sliders to max.

Are you running it vanilla, or with tweaks and/or GotR?

I played both on the 360, and I think the controls are pretty similar. Been quite awhile so I'm not 100%. I reember that I did very much prefer the SR controls to the GTA ones on console, as SR lets you free-look with the thumbstuck cursor like a 3PS or (simple) mouse, while GTA has Autolock and R2 or something to autolock to the next target. I found that I couldn't play using that scheme.

I tweaked it a little but not much. I think my computer setup with SSD just made it run well almost without configuration out of the box.

Seems to run ok, but the driving sucks. Maybe I've been spoiled by GTA's arcadey driving. I jumped on a motorcycle that seemed to have no motorcycle physics, I sit straight up as I go around a corner? The truck near the jail breakout was bad, but a top-heavy truck I can see. Acceleration and braking seems very hard and abrupt. I tooled around in a little sports car for the mission to the courthouse and the camera really started to bug me. It always seems to be pointing the wrong way, so apparently while I'm playing I also need to play the camera minigame? Almost need the GotR (I have 1.8) if you use a controller, since it doesn't give you controller buttons in the tutorial, it shows the KBAM keys Also not happy they have 4 races and 3 voices. I had to reroll my ancient chinese kung fu master because the cabron voice just isn't cutting it. I rerolled a kind of Statham dude but what I thought was a UK accent is more Oceania, I think. I'm tempted to just go with the flow and make some stupid gangsta stereotype.

Digital gas and brake is Do it. There's an alternate control scheme in the 360 version which is essentially the GTA scheme and it works as one would hope with the gas/brake mapped to the triggers regarding gradients of control; hopefully that would translate to the PC port (which is what you're using?). Makes driving much more pleasant. Jesus Christ that is an ugly sentence.

One thing I liked in SR that they didn't do as well in SR2 were the gang area of control zones; you could sometimes cause huge confrontations between rival gangs to ignite at the zone boundaries, then just kick back and watch the action off to the side or try to keep it going, was my favorite part of the game. Made me wish for a "Urban Uprising" type game where the object would be to incite civil unrest with as much large scale rioting and mayhem as possible in a trickster/mischiefmaker type role.
