One my colleagues got a new laptop with Win 7 installed and had trouble setting up a networked 2600 LJ on his. Strangely, I had the same issue at day one, but managed to just stumble upon a solution which I am unable to replicate.
I looked at HP support forum, google and stuff. They recommended I use a USB cable connection first, then change the setting to TCP/IP after it's done. Tried that, did not work. Wonder where I went wrong.
Anyone with experience with this sort of thing? HP Site only offers USB PnP driver for Win7.

We have a 2600n in the house and I vaguely remember setting it up on my Win7 x64 box.
Pretty sure I used the Vista print driver package/print system download and it worked from there. Didn't try the USB-first thing though.

i'll give it a shot. What confuses me is that Win 7 has all printers driver listed on Add Printer, but not the 2600 series.
Edit: tried. Didn't work. incompatible with w64.
I downloaded this: HP Color LaserJet 2600n Print Driver Package 6.2.1 27 Jun 2007 13.2 56K: 32m 512K: 3m

I may be thinking of a different model, but I ran into a similar issue with a printer that had no Win7 64 bit support. You have to trick it to find the right driver from the Windows installation database. I can't remember off hand, but I think its by selecting Local Port, then manually typing in the IP address. After that, pick Windows Update it'll update the driver database and now you have an updated and much broader database of drivers to chose from.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Couple of ideas... Using 7zip or winrar, open the .exe and extract the files. You should now be able to create a new printer via Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers, add Network printer, select your LJ2600N printer, then point it to your newly extracted driver files (W7 found them for me automatically anyway).
I downloaded and installed the Vista 64 bit driver. Used windows add printer on network and it installed without having to use USB connection.
or Download the Windows 7 64bit plug-n-play driver & install it using a USB cable. Once it is installed, remove the USB cable and reattach the network cable. Then hit the Add Printer button in the Win 7 Devices & Printers file and select Network Printer. The system should list the 2600n which is then selected. You need to know & input the IP address for your printer (print the config report from the printer's control panel) & select TCP/IP in the Add Printer dialogue box. Windows indicated that it installed the printer using the HP 2600n driver. A click of the Print a Test Page box on the last page of the Add Printer dialogue box showed that the printer was working over the network. Windows listed the network printer as HP2600n (Copy 1) which I changed to ...(Networked). Once the networked printer is confirmed as working, delete the PNP printer.
