I am going to be in India for a week and a bit next month and I was wondering if anyone here has travelled there recently. If so I was wondering if you could help answer a couple of questions.
I will be in Bangalore and Mumbai for most of the time but I will have a few days at the end to travel about. Where are some of the places you would recommend going in such a time frame?
Also, do you have any ideas or knowledge about the best options for pre-paid sim cards for a netbook internet connection?
Hooray India.

My coworkers say either "It's a slum filled with human waste and too many people" or "It's awesome because you can live like a king for the salary of a blue collar worker. You can have your own chef and bodyguard/car driver. In fact, you should have the latter".
I bet the lonely planet guidebook is good if you're doing some traveling.

We watch that show. The way people drive over there would make anyone insane, IMO. While I get that the people living there are used to driving like that, it's still just not right.

I have not been to India but Mrs. Naum, close friends and work colleagues have spent significant bouts of time there…
Say your prayers when traveling the roads…
Do not drink the water.
Prepare for hordes of beggars and sights of destitution…
Not all is bad, and you may have "handlers" that shield you from a lot, though when traveling (and flying about can be dicey, as adherence to schedules and such don't seem to be as prized a virtue as parts in the western world…) you're going to experience some thrills.
Go see the Taj Majal.

Two friends of mine stayed in Mumbai (just a month or two before it got shot up) as part of a trip across south Asia. They had lots good things to day about the city and the experience. Thats about all I can offer.

I, too, have been told to hire a driver (if you plan to drive) or else you'll constantly be having "accidents". Haven't been, despite the high percentage of Indian friends I have... some of which currently live there.

Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone

That whole video.. my god. Not just what they were laughing at but the traffic around them. Lane lines are suggestions.. and if you've got 24" between cars, hey.. that's room enough for your vehicle.

Good to hear. Looks like I wont be getting out of Bangalore or Mumbai in the end, so will have to make do with what is around in those parts.

My co-worker spent two weeks in Bangalore last month. They have some king's manor there and a Hard Rock Cafe. Other than that he said there wasn't much to do. The pics are quite interesting but it sounded very dull. He had a driver. Dude doesn't know how to have a good time so maybe he missed out.
My other friend was at the hotel the Dali Lama was staying in and got to shake his hand!
