Plastic surgeons are gods now?

I think that depends entirely on the quality of the finished product.

Wrong, botched plastic surgery is like the down syndrome of synthetic godliness.

Sword Coast Legends finally got around to showing character creation and, surprisingly, it didn't look too bad....

I was thinking about games in the early-mid 90s the other day. Didn't Arena come on like 13 3.5"s? I remember it having an inordinate number of disks, then only a few years later Daggerfall came on one CD.

I used to go down to a market stall in Glasgow and the couple of guys there would take your order from a huge dot-matrix printed list of games and you'd give them cash and come back an hour later and they'd have copied your game onto a stack of floppy discs for you. I think the only reason they got away with it for so long was that the police didn't understand what they were doing.

But yeah, some of the stacks of discs were huge. I also remember installing Windows 3.11 from floppy discs. Man that was fun.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Here's a trailer for the new BBC docudrama about the the making of Grand Theft Auto. The presence of Danile Radcliffe makes it what has been described as a GTA/Harry Potter crossover fanfic, or Grand Theft Potter, but I am not gonna complain as I've been asking for movies about the making of videogames and computers since forever. Since I'm here, I'll suggest you all look into Halt and Catch Fire, a nice show about a company in the 80s trying to beat IBM at making portable computers, and Micro Men, another BBC movie about the competition between Sinclair and Acorn in the same era.

Sierra games were the fucking worst floppy disc ports I've seen in my life. They took many floppies, fair enough. But for whatever bonehead reason they put some of the files used everywhere on 1st disc only, so playing through every scene was exercise in endlessly swapping 1st disc, other disc, 1st disc, other disc, literally dozen+ times.

They worked ok if you had two drives (or with enough memory mapped the first disc to a RAM drive) but without that swamp poop

I still remember all the disk swapping involved in The Adventures of Willy Beamish for Amiga (12 disks).

I worked in a games shop during the 16-bit era. Some of the Microprose stuff came on 24+ discs. I remember the Strike Commander box being particular massive.
Lovely manuals too.

The last game I bought that came on floppies was the first Gabriel Knight game.  I think it came on 13 discs, and our computer at the time kept having installation errors about halfway through the process.  After that, I managed to convince my parents to upgrade.

I think the last game I actually bought on floppy was Doom II.  CDs took over pretty soon after that.

However, I remember installing Quake from a stack of 40-ish floppies numbered with magic marker, borrowed from a friend at school.

And if I recall correctly, one of the floppies had an error on it that messed up one of the game files -- but luckily it was one of the files that was included in the demo version (which I had spent the entire day downloading from id's FTP site when it first released, all 8MB of it over a 14.4k modem and no ability to resume after a disconnect), so I just copied the good version in from the demo and was off to the races.

At least with games like Strike Commander or Ultima you could at least install it to a hard drive (I had a massive 20 MB drive for my first PC). So you'd only have to play disc jockey once.

RPS reports that Dragon's Dogma w/xpac is headed to PC in January. $29.99 and on Steam.

It's a weird game, but likely my favorite from last gen.

I'm curious though: aside from the buggy Mega Man Legacy Collection, what PC releases have Capcom done lately that have been shoddy port jobs? I'm not talking about the quality of the title itself, just its port.

They've been pretty far removed from the days of releasing Resident Evil 4 on PC with no mouse control.

Yes it's hard to be worse than the trifecta of Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry 3 and Onimusha on the PC. However they've been trying very hard to replicate that level of badness with the Dead Rising games.

Lost Planet was a fucking disaster on the PC.

Dead Rising was a train wreck.

Resident Evil 4 was a pure nightmare. Not in a good way.

Capcom is consistently shit at PC Ports.

Didn't they screw up RE4 twice? Once with the original release and then had issues again with the HD release?

Guess which game recently got a new patch?

Correct, it's KOTOR 2!  why so serious?

Most importantly: Native wide-screen support (up to 4k) and Steam workshop (read: "The Sith lord restoration mod" is now a one-click install). Also some minor things like achievements, controller support and cloud saves.

Pleasantly surprised, I am.

Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic!

I want it but I got a bad feeling from the trailer and I got confirmation of exactly that suspicion in a review: the merry voice acting doesn't match the dark mood of the game. It could be a minor thing but it bothers me, so Ohhhhh, I see. - see if it matters to you.

Yeah, the reviews and devs say it's more a thinking horror this time.  That said, the gameplay video looks terrifying in the same manner as Amnesia, so who knows.

I just really like the look of it and it's only 20 quid and I like the developers....
