This will help keep Eve interesting.  Accumulating wealth in a fortress is ultimately pointless, I was amazed when I heard the goons were evacuating Delve, now I'm just in awe.

Well, during the Bob-Kenzoku phase of the great war the saying was "Delve is for Goons, anime is cartoons."  Not so much any more.

And I just happen to think that ascii art is a classier genre.

I meant that colossal fuck up that led to losing Delve. I reactivated not so long ago, luckily I was imminently bored to shit and stopped playing.

CCP changed the sov system without giving a manual. Goons didn't have the sov money in the right wallet division. Someone who's job it was to move money was too :effort: to log in over a couple of days. No money in right wallet, sov drops at the end of our prime. Enemies claim sov 10 hours later over half our systems. Goons say "Screw this, we're going home"

The ever eloquent and painfully unconflicted (simple?) Blaster Worm (tldr: we are literally the Nazis):

Vice, erected in cult.

...

Briefly about the causes of the fall. The formal reason - unpaid bill. But what is behind this? Two things: paranoia and disorganization. Very nice that an alliance whose landmark victory occurred thanks to bribery and treason was the victim of distrust to their own directors. There were many cries about "It's just the game" However, in practice, in this "just play" in "fun dudes" alliance : in general, no one doesn't trust anyone.

I don't think he "gets" goons, not that this is news.  I keep considering resubbing to play in "fun dudes" alliance again.

Witty banter not included.

The funniest thing about browsing the GF forums is seeing Daruis has the same avatar I made for him at LEAST a year ago, more like a year and a half.

Man, I got some mileage out of that one. And it's STILL funny.

Which, if you need a little more context, is Groon's alliance.

Can someone actually provide context on this whole Groon thing? While I usually have a reasonably good understanding of the history and relationships of chars, corps and alliances that one evades me. Probably because I'm in the small minority of folks who are not reading the GS forums...

Not anymore, the corp that most of F13 was in was just kicked out of the alliance for not "getting Goons".  awesome, for real

He also brought two new non-English speaking pubbie corps into the alliance with Free Space Pilots AKA Banderlogs and Pulsar (from RA and TCF respectively).

I'm pretty sure that was more of a jabberati decision than something that karttoon really wanted.

Nothing in Goonfleet happens without the CEO wanting it to happen. The fact is the only CEO who brought in more pubbies was Sesfan.

and thanks for the LOVEU kick.

Here comes :words:!

Very long ago Remedial was burning out and needed to take a break.  He left a guy named Hoegaarden nominally in charge, along with the rest of the directorate.  Names escape me.  IIRC Cefte was around for that, and El Pinto Grande (an SA Admin, author of the Tank Is Fight books).  This was back when Remedial still at least paid lip service to the idea that Goonfleet was a corp about goon solidarity (laffo) and GF was actively using the corp shares system to do democratic voting among the directorate about certain issues.

Hoegaarden was widely considered to be pretty fucking terrible as a CEO, and gave an historic SotG address in a room with several live parrots who would not shut the fuck up the whole time he was talking on TS.  That's where the *SQUAK* jokes come from.

Even so, Hoegaarden himself remains convinced that he was a bitching radical CEO who led GF to almost victory in the mad scramble for XZH- and Cloud Ring when a random GF pilot accidentally shot the station and realized it was conquerable.  A few other directors agreed with his opinion of himself, most notably EPG.

Eventually Remedial came back, and wanted his personal kingdom restored to him.  Hoe balked bigtime, pissed that he'd done whatever he'd done while Rem was away and now it was all being taken from him.  So he tried to stage a coup using the corp share system.  He actually came pretty close to deposing Rem as in-game CEO I think.  A few more shares might have done it.

But the upshot is that he failed and was exiled by Rem.  Most of the directorate that supported him had their roles stripped and were kicked as well.

Hoe wandered off to lick his wounds and founded a new corp called "The Greater Goon".  His idea was that he exiled voluntarily to prevent philosophic civil war (hence the name, a play on greater good) but he held the true goony goon goon-ness close to heart by refusing to engage in politics or sov warfare and instead just being chillax broheims from planet brosefius.

As a deposed ruler, it was easy for every subsequent CEO of GF to make Hoe and his Groons the Jews to their Reich.  They were the big, bad Other who were somehow to be hated and sneered at even though it was usually about 6-10 dudes at any time who really couldn't give a shit at all about the things GF cared about and were never anything like a threat.  On at least one occasion Rem led GF into an area of 0.0 where Groon happened to have already landed (very likely by accident) causing EPG to develop a really unfortunate case of full-blown, peeking-out-the-blinds paranoia and quit EVE entirely.

Groon finally wound up back in Syndicate as a member of OSS.  Years later that went south (more useless *words* would be required to explain that) and Groon needed to get out quick.  Hoe struck a deal with, I think, Sesfan to let Groon into the GS alliance and they moved to the very tipy-toe, ass end of south east EVE.  Literally on one of those final dead end systems that mark the edges of the universe.

Problem was Groon members still really didn't give a shit about stuff like sov warfare, weren't big fans of general GS bandwagony behavior, and were honestly just nowhere near hardassed enough to cut it in conquerable 0.0.  Participation fell to almost nil, with less than 4 Groons in corp chat at any given time.

Then Sesfan left, and Darius ALLCAPS rose to power.  Even before he was CEO, back in his lobby krew days, he had loved nothing more than trolling and hating on Groon. (A corp, by the way, who's history predated his EVE existence by a hell of a lot.  I doubt he knows more than a couple people past Mittens who were even around back then.)  Somewhere on the Groon forums I think there's still a TS recording of him going off on a hilarious rant about how Groon didn't do anything to earn the space that GS bled for and how they weren't real goons and should be purged.

But like I said, he wound up CEO.  And some time after that, right in the middle of the big malaise after the failed push into Delve, he did a midnight kick of Groon from GS with no warning.  I think he thought he'd get the kind of morale boost that would have come from kicking BTLS.  Instead, most goons were just like "what?" and rho squad and a bunch of other guys arranged to carrier out what Groon assets they could safely since Groon went suddenly gray in the middle of hostile space.

Groon actually landed in NPC Delve for a bit after that.  A bunch of them had actively participated in the failed Delve push (ALLCAPS propaganda notwithstanding) so they knew the area and had some assets.  But, again, they just aren't badasses.  BoB and some random Italian dudes pushed their shit in over and over.

But OSS had since collapsed and NOTR (Groons biggest detractor from back then) had abandoned Syndicate.  So Groons just kinda went back without allies or plans or politics.  Hoe at some point I think bummed ISK from the Adarmada to form an alliance named Clockwork Pineapple that contains LKNR and a bunch of one-man bullshit alt corps.  There they've been ever since, getting rolled by EoS and Cry Havoc and killing random scout alts in newbie ships that tried to run the pipe rather than podjump.

Until GS imploded.  Goons came back to Syndicate, flew in some pickup gangs with Groons wherein both sides realized that literally none of them even knew why they were supposed to hate the other because everyone involved on both sides had long since quit (Hoe "plays" but never logs in.  Adar is supposedly back but has nothing to do with either side of the conflict.  I predate basically everything but am krunk as fuck 24/7 and it's entirely pointless to try to drag me into spaceship politics because I'm incoherent.), Darius clamed down, and now Groon and Goonwaffe are blue again.

If you actually read all of that what you should take away is that I'm an unreliable narrator and I really, really love trolling the shit out of Hoe even on forums he doesn't read.
