The bud doesn't look all that wonderful actually, but not awful either.  Given the choice between the two items, I'd take the controller and find my own bud.  But, yeah, when I don't have any I miss it too.  :)

That gif is so old the couple have a child that is now fishing in a boat.

Hahaha, be demoralized because it's not ever going to happen. The best you can really hope for is some shitty grey-zone decriminalization that cops and politicians reverse their enforcement on whenever it suits their needs.

Going to disagree with you. It's only going to take a couple states to legalize it and have everyone see it's not a big deal before it blows over just like DADT did, and gay marriage will.

What's interesting about that whole thing is that even if your state legalizes it, you're in violation of federal law, so there's still that sword of Damocles hanging over your head.  A sufficiently aggressive federal administration could quash the whole thing if they wanted.  Of course, any Dems that do that are hurting themselves with their base to no real benefit, and while Reps are more likely to do it they'd be handing their opponents a nice club to beat them with the next time they talk about limited federal government, small government, personal responsibility, and/or state's rights, so it's not really in their best interests either.

I know some venture capitalist types here in Seattle who are thinking of getting into medical grade manufacture for mass distribution. Don't worry, if it makes lotsa money in WA and CO, and the right people are payed off, it'll be legal faster than you can say "speakeasy".

Culturally, his points were a turning point in the attitude.  It will still be an uphill battle, but I wouldn't be surprised if 25 years from now it was legal in most states.

Even then I'm not sure. You've got to deal with the cop union. That War on Drugs was the best thing that ever happened to law enforcement, financially. However, I guess you can just move it all to fighting the meth epidemic, though that's actual cop work unlike busting stoners.

Because legal marijuana is a multi-billion dollar industry. I can't believe Phillip-Morris isn't lobbying for it, fuck a tobacco crop. Put that level of industry to growing marijuana, cha-ching.

Sorry for the semi-political derail.

The problem with making it into an entire industry is that a lot of people already grow enough for their personal use. Legalize it and they'll be able to gro more of it, as well as people who don't use starting to grow it. Also, don't forget that our for-profit prison industry wants it to stay illegal.

Definitely not the prison industry that cares either way... hell it is not even about regulation of it. It is about how a company can monopolize it for profit which hasn't been worked out just yet. If anything, the alcohol and tobacco industries are the ones pushing for its prohibition. How noble...and ironic.

A lot of people most certainly do not grow their own pot. Do you know a lot of people growing their own tobacco?

Ask California how putting people in prison for low level offenses is working out.

Don't tobacco plants need a lot more space?  Being able to grow on a windowsill makes a big difference, especially for us city folk.

Having a barn to hang the tobacco is probably a more space intensive.

A single tobacco plant? Not too much, could easily get away with one in a large planter. Problem is, one plant is not going to do much for you and the growing conditions have to be within boundaries. When I lived in Darlington, I got to know one of the farm owners through my roommate and he was telling me all sorts of stuff about his growing season.

Tobacco is a very picky plant, that's why it is grown in only a few narrow areas world-wide. Cannabis, on the other hand, is literally a weed, you can still find wild hemp aka 'ditchweed' growing all over the place even though nobody has grown it commercially in the US for 50 years.  Maximizing growth rate of modern highly-bred cannibis sativa is why growers have so much equipment.
