So I decided to see if I can give this game another try.  I've re-subbed but realized that I can't remember anything about this game.  Reading the messages on here makes my head spin as well.  Is there a place I can read up on the basics of Eve?

If you're in LoveU then the wiki is the best resource in the world of Eve.  Bar none.  Accept no substitutes.

Also, get in there in time for Saturday's frigate roam.

Thanks for the advice.  What's LoveU?
I read the public Goonfleet wiki stuff and it looks interesting (though very complex) and I think I'll need to do the tutorial again since the last time I did it was a year or more ago and I can't remember any of it.

Any other information would be appreciated.

Read this thread to find out. Scroll down to "I'm a Cute Newbie.  Why should I join?"

Also the in-game tutorial got updated about 9 months ago and is more straightforward than it used to be.

Just to reiterate - the goonwiki is awesome. Excellent guides on what skills to train and various purpose built fittings for almost every ship. My play has been vastly improved by access to this wiki.

Speaking of marketing, we're out of milk.

I'm getting kinda psyched to try this out again.. Just worried that I'll get frustrated like last time what with the immense learning curve I remember.

I've been playing six months.  It took me the first two months just to realize how little I knew about Eve.  But you can learn it all in small bites.

Word of advice: Don't try to do the tutorial with a character you created before the new tutorial was introduced.  I spent an hour trying to complete the "exploration" agent tutorial, only to end up getting one-shotted by a group of NPCs that were, for some reason, right beside the "anomoly" I was supposed to investigate.  Fun times.

Yes, but that was supposed to be in a PVP tutorial if I remember correctly.

Oh I wouldn't have minded dying, except that I never did even complete the mission because the anomoly that was found wasn't registering when I went past it.  While I appreciate the new tutorial a lot more than the one I went through before, there's still some stuff in it that doesn't work very well.

My friend is close to finishing all the tutorials, including the new ones, for all races. He has had no problems and he's a foreigner who's never played EvE.

No offense, but considering how unintuitive Eve still is, it might be you.

I will do the new tutorials on an legacy alt to confirm things though.

I also just started, and I got through the Military and Advanced Military tutorials with little trouble (aside from learning the controls and such). I'm working on Business now; I'd like to finish them all up before heading out to join up so I have a handle on the basics.

Yes, I'm sure that being instructed to warp to the tutorial anomaly that actually SAID "Tutorial anomaly", appearing in an area with 5-10 red ships that instantly destroyed me, is totally "just me".  What a stupid thing to say.  How in the world could it be?

On a new character I did the same mission with no problem (and it had no hostiles, imagine that).

Here's an example of something the mining tutorial messed up:

The first mission has you go mine some Veldspar.  The tricky part is that when you undock after accepting the mission, the help dialog indicates that you can mine in multiple asteroid fields.  That's fine if you're just mining in general, but you have to go to the specific asteroid in the mission to mine if you want to complete the mining mission.  Never mind that you can mine Veldspar elsewhere, it won't accept THAT stuff.

Not a huge deal, but it was still an annoying frustration.

Not now, I ended up ditching that mission and starting a new character to go through the tutorials from the start.  They do work relatively well if you do that.

If you continue doing missions as a staple diet this will happen to you more than once.

My military contact quit talking to me because I dawdled with a mission - I hadn't even accepted it, but it was offered.  The contact won't talk to me any more, sadly.
