Part of the problem is when someone posts an amazingly talented world-class guitarist and everyone natters on about the commercial shit being shoved down your throats.

He is definitely a talented guitarist, he just isn't my style of music.  I appreciate it but have a hard time getting into it.

That riff at 2:13 in To Breathe in a Casket...oh man, that is some absolutely fantastic stuff.  Fucking love it.   Unfortunately I don't care much at all for the main riff of the song which hurts because its repeated fairly often.     The second track opening is just goofy as shit.  Ugh, this is why I dislike Necrophagist, they just throw in random goofy arpeggios/guitar trickery that make no sense at all in the context of the riff.  Otherwise I actually really like their riffs, if not their overall composition which is meh.

I saw these guys on a battle of the bands type competition run by Metal Hammer shown on a now defunct metal/rock channel. They are mad. Especially the Conan warpaint, kilts, fur jerkins and that nutter on the accordion. I may have posted these guys here or on another thread, but Evile won the 2nd competition MH ran. Here is a clip of them playing in the studio. They play the entire album on the DVD that came with the limited edition CD.

For the guitar people, random thing I happened to run across today while wasting time on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJw7EeozDIYMy late uncle was a not-really-successful musician in Nebraska for many years, this guy was his hero.

This kind of fits here, and I didn't want to make a new thread.

I'm looking for a pair of canal earbuds in the $50 range, just for using with an mp3 player. Anyone have suggestions?

What kind of music do you listen to, Mr. Twat?  There's a lot of variance between sets and some are better for certain types of music than others.  For instance, I have some Etymotics that I love, but the bass response is not good for artists like Lady Gaga.   I find the eadroom website to be a good place to shop for earbuds/earhphones.  They've got just about everything there is, from very, very low end to $12,000 sets.

http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/pat-benatar/concerts/austin-october-06-1981.htmlYe gods.    Membership to the vault has been an amazing gift. This is my haul thus far, all in FLAC @ $4.90/ea with $5.90 left in the till: Pat Benatar   Oct 6, 1981   Austin Lynyrd Skynyrd   Mar 7, 1976   Winterland Muddy Waters Blues Band   Nov 4, 1966   Fillmore Auditorium Count Basie and His Orchestra   Jul 2, 1959   Newport Jazz Festival Fleetwood Mac   Nov 2, 1969   Cue Club Fleetwood Mac   Feb 1, 1970   Warehouse Fleetwood Mac   Jun 8, 1968   Carousel Ballroom Bela Fleck   Jan 26, 2011   Daytrotter Studio (this one was a free mp3 set) The Dirty Dozen Brass Band   May 1, 2003   TwiRoPa James Brown   Jul 6, 1969   Newport Jazz Festival I've mentioned the site before, and it's great for streaming. At $48 for WVIP membership, you get $50 in credit. By buying stuff on the daily download deal, the above is the result. You can really stretch it if you buy the mp3 versions @ $3.50 for members ($5/7 for non-members). Obviously I'm a blues fan and really dig the Green-era Mac. But I love me some funk, the Brown set is sick and up there with the Apollo/Say It Live and Loud sets; and I discovered the DDBB. Benatar and Skynyrd at the peak. Basie hot in 59 with nice audible stage banter during the songs...up until a guest singer kinda bombs the set with an odd warbly vibrato halfway through. And my pre-membership buys: UFO   Sep 23, 1975   Record Plant Santana   Aug 18, 1970   Tanglewood Freddie King   Aug 25, 1970   Ash Grove Stevie Ray Vaughan   Apr 15, 1984   Austin Opera House

CYH is probably the album most similar to Paul's Boutique already, so I'm not sure you're describing a big difference there (I still haven't gotten around to listening to the new one.)
