Am I reading this wrong or is the lvl 40 caster gear better than the lvl 50?

Got the woodcutting recipe for Ashen Walking Stick as a random drop.  If anybody needs one, feel free to send me the required materials (listed on that link).  Chances are though that you'll likely have something better than that by the time you hit 40.
