Seriously yeah, when you look at what sparked off every war ever seen, greed!

Fixed that for you - well, and religion.

How the fuck would logging checkbox ticking overload the goddamn database?

Actually, it wouldn't. At most, it'd generate a double digit amount of queries per hour, or even just minute (doubtful). Considering how fragile all that shit is, you'd expect them sacrificing a couple of milliseconds of CPU time for that shit. Doesn't even have to be the main database, same for other "telemetry".

I can understand their reluctance if scamming is involved, but hacking? Christ...

I just listened to a podcast where a former WOW GM talks about how they don't log everything, but they log important stuff, like chats, item deletions, item sharding, item transfer, gold transfer, etc.  You know, changes in things that define core gameplay mechanics.

And here we find out that for one of the CORE mechanics in EVE, the thing that tens of thousands of players pour their (ill-spent, according to Schild) time into, a gameplay mechanic that literally defines the game outside of Empire, they don't log something as simple as changes in whether you want your tower to count toward sovereignty.  Or, apparently, when the systems tick over to the next sov levels, because THEY asked US for that information.

WOW may be a non-serious gamer's    carebear's   wrong, bad and stupid [insert derogatory term here] game, but at least the ones running the game are pro.  This lack of logging is clownshoes made to fit the Colossus of Rhodes.

If somebody gets hacked in Wow it affects that player and their guild only. A hacker in Eve can affect a huge scope of players.

Maybe I'm with your point, but the tears from one guy getting hacked in Wow will never come close to a big hack job in Eve. Too many servers, too little actual damage is done in Wow. So the tears in Wow are obscured by rants about X class cause they do not have the ability to all train the same shit if they want. Totally apples and oranges.

Players have no impact on the World in Wow.  It makes for a very different service model.
