So I just saw the trailer.  Now, I'm by no means an expert on the X-men, or Wolverine, but since when was he born with the Adamantium claws?  As far as I knew they were part of the Weapon X package.  Has Marvel really changed his origin story that much since the last time I checked?(which was 10-15 years ago, admittedly)

They revealed quite a while back, when Magneto ripped the adamantium out of him, that he had bone claws that had been coated with adamantium.

Wolverine #75, part of the Fatal Attractions storyline.  Years later they went into a bit more detail on his background in Wolverine:  Origin.

Wow, that trailer reminds me just how much I hate Wolverine.  Overmarketed, almost always badly written, stupid.  I haven't liked him since that X-Man Saturday morning cartoon from the early 90s.

Um.

Hmmm.

It'll probably do well at the box office.

What's interesting is the thread in the Movie sub-forum about the trailer has people ooh-ing and ah-ing.

I imagine it'll do ok as a generic action flick with a character that at least some portion of the main stream would be vaguely familiar with.

I can only hope the scene of Reynolds/Deadpool was some sort of flashback prior to him being disfigured, and donning the costume.  And Gambit?   awesome, for real

Deadpool is there, for a second or two swinging two swords. You won't recognize him though, he has no mask and a sleeveless shirt, cause Ryan is teh seksi. This is going to suck ass.

You all saw the chap that they hired to be Sabertooth. Are you really surprised to see that they've sodomized Wade Wilson?

Liev Schriber is awesome for a younger Sabertooth.. about a million steps up from the one from the X-men movie.

Or they could've gone for this chap.

Liev Schriber is a terrible actor.

Wrong.

Although a favourite comic nerd pass time, getting bent out of shape about whatever way Wolverine's past is being molested this time is a severe waste of energy.

As someone somewhere else pointed out when I first saw the Deadpool figure, it's possible they didn't completely sodomize Deadpool.  It's possible that, in the movie, he tapes the blades to his arms to mimic wolverine, and pulls his usual shenanigans.  My money, however, is not on that, but time will tell.

The first thing I thought when I saw that was they're strapped to his arms to mock him.

Final trailer up on MTV.com.

Interesting that they're bringing a young Cyclops into this.  Made me wonder if they were involving Sinister somehow (the part where the guy says something about "the young mutant you were looking for") especially given that both Sabretooth and Gambit have worked for Sinister.  Even if it's just a cameo of his human alter ego Nathaniel Essex.

That did look like the Deadpool doll action figure that was pictured above. Also, that looked like Sabertooth was chasing Cyclops through the school.

The guy with the blades in his arms is Weapon XI.
From wiki:
    * Scott Adkins as Weapon XI: Weapon XI has powers "pooled" from many other mutants killed and/or kidnapped in the film, including Wolverine's healing factor and Cyclops' optic blasts.[20]. He's the final antagonist of the film, having been genetically altered to be the ultimate mutant killer.[3]

Yep, Deadpool's comics are awesome. From the new line that started with Secret Invasion they have been hilarious. So funny in fact that my g/f (who hates comics) actually laughs her ass off at his split personality and his antics.

This. They got the name on the package wrong. That would be a good buy though for collectors (maybe?).

If anything I will go see it purely for the "fun" factor. I am not expecting it to be even remotely close to anything Weapon X, Origins, or Old Man Logan. Probably a mix of all of it. I am still kinda boggled to see Gambit but whichever. The tough part is sitting in the theatre and not saying "ah christ, seriously?" out loud too much.

It's not. Two totally different characters in the movie. Deadpool is played by Ryan Reynolds, XI is played by Scott Adkins. They just borked up the packaging.
