No registration key so far.  (I'm thinking Best Buy might have stiffed us.  I'm going to call in a bit.)

I see an option for "Purchase Early Access" in my account page, but clicking on it takes me to an Anarchy Online page and not a spend $5 for early access.  Do I need the key to get that?

Does the early access just let me download the game, or is this a fee on top of the supposed free 3-day early access my pre-order was supposed to give me?

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

The key takes a day or two to get to you via email.  No idea why.  Probably something to do with whatever vendor you bought it from confirming the order to Funcom as an early registration, then Funcom generating a key for you.

I wouldn't worry about Purchase Early Access.  All it does is allow you to start downloading the 20GB client now, rather than the 14th, even though the early access doesn't begin on the 17th.

I did, and it's a phenomenal waste of money.  Trust me.  PM incoming.

Thanks.  I'll give that a try.

I'm partially worried about getting the key because I pre-ordered from Best Buy when they were still getting details up.  They didn't have a bonus pack available at the time.  We put in an e-mail to customer service to make sure it was added.

You can download it now, if you like, at this link for the US version:  http://funcom.cachefly.net/AoC-US-EarlyAccess.exe  People are reporting times between 5 hours and three weeks.   ACK!  I got it early (before I actually got the email, while my payment was still pending) and it took only about 8 hours.  I'm not sure.  I was asleep most of the time and I'm a firm believer in the whole watched pot thingy.

71 kbps in the event we get codes.  Currently paused since even that is killing my internet connection.  This is one for when I'm sleeping and at work.

interesting note.  Funcom can't code a working bittorrent system.

Their docs tell you you can set the max upload speed.  I set mine to 25.  Their downloader kept downloading at 35-40.

I hate bittorrent. Can't I get a normal download?

I restricted my upload to 25 KB/s but we'll see if that helps - seeing 130 KB/s down right now (should be able to get 300 KB/s or so).

Edit: I love how their help page shows downloading at 1000 KB/s - haha!

I'm getting about that speed right now.

Also, if you pause and reconnect, it'll grab new clients and shit.

I think I averaged around the same as Schildy.  I think you can patch tomorrow.  Patch?  More of this?   ACK!

A curious side note:  Swedes are reporting better times than Norwegians.  Uh oh.  They better gimp Sweden or move their offices!

Hmm, pausing and reconnecting is only making my reported download speed slower. From 350 KB/s to 250 KB/s now  swamp poop

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

The European datasenters for AoC are in Amsterdam, and I'm pretty sure Sweden has a better/faster/shorter/something connection to "mainland"-Europe than we (Norwegians) do. I think. =P

If you have finished the Early Access download, make sure you install it an run the patcher.  Today theres a 700MB patch you can download to the client.

I started up mine before work and I was getting 1.5-2MB/s

But where things are and who has a better backbone or shorter faster pussycats isn't the point, is it?  Norway should DO something to Sweden.  It's Norway v Sweden.  It's ALWAYS Norway v Sweden!  (I bet they house those servers at The Bulldog in Amsterdam.  I would.)

I don't REALLY want to be on a PVP server, but you know what, I'd be up for whatever.

Just depends ... when I was downloading the 12gig install over bittorrent it certainly made the grid load slower in Eve (undocks took 20 secs instead of 5, etc). Patching actually wasn't that bad, as it didn't use bittorrent but had good enough speed.

It uses a crappy torrent client that hammers your connection even if it's only getting 1 kbps, and ignores the up/down limits you set.  I got better performance browsing web pages on a 14.4k modem than with this running.

It is pretty dreadful.  If I hadn't got in so early and downloaded in about 8 hours, I probably would just wait for the box to arrive.  There are quite a lot of people who started the download days ago and are still downloading.  Another thing, it shuts off as soon as it's done.  Usually I leave it on all night to seed.  My download was finished about an hour after I went to bed and it just shut down.

Mine finished in 5 hours.  Just remember to patch it up.  There are a few patches to get through, I'd say patch it once a day until Saturday, this way there is no undue waitage.

It's a good idea to defrag after all the patching too.
