Can somebody explain that picture to me?  Or is it just meant to be taken "as is"?

Excellent, someone asked EXACTLY what I was thinking.

I just assume if Schild gets it immediately, it's some crazy Japanese thing I don't want to understand.

Do want.

Just stumbled across this link, showing that the above desktop is not using Samurize, but something else.

http://customize.org/rainmeter/skins/58074

I guess its called Rainmeter, and is an offshoot of Rainlendar.

I just downloaded and started playing with Rainmaker. THink of it as Vista's widget, but infinately more versatile and with a 26 Mb ram footprint. I'll post a screenshot of my system once I have something neat to look at.

Ah, I see, just different takes on a famous anime movie cover:

I'll just assume somebody decided to make a Resident Evil version of the cover because it was funny, unless I'm missing some other reference hidden in there (and it looked like it had a lot of weird little references).

Soo, I've spent most of my evening playing with Rainmeter. Its pretty danged awsome. Imagine Vista Sidebar, but with text-based config files you can fiddle with to your heart's content, from Font type, to data layout, to RSS feeds.

Also, check out the ram footprint.

It's "My neighbor Totoro". I saw it back in 1993 when I was a youngin', that is the only reason I know it.

Studio Ghibli is pretty much the most famous animation house in the world. We're talking "would be bigger than Disney at this point if Disney didn't distribute their shit" big.

Rainmeter is pretty great, I can't find one to make a list of text based shortcuts. I'd love that, have games categories and such. Also, I'm not sure what I think of the slideshow options, but will investigate more.

I couldn't get the damn thing to work last night, or at least not the cool skin up above. I'll have to try again tonight. Any words of wisdom? I'm on XP.

I think you need to download some file, called GDI+ or something.... It's in the helpfile. You then run the program and load individual modules as .ini files from the dropdown menu. At least that's what I stumbled into and it worked for me without too much poking.

What font are you using Engels?

That font was a font called Hyboria. I've switched it to Papyrus. You have to change the font size to something smaller with some of those fonts, since it scruches stuff together if you don't.

I'm also having trouble having some of the 'modules' to work, like the switching from black and white.

I'm an idiot. I installed Rainlandar instead of Rainmeter. It's all pretty cool, even if having to hack files to tweak variables feels very 1980's.

Also, Schild, how did you create that box in the top left with text links to folders/exes?

Ok I admit I'm extremely hung over right now.

How do you configure it to display just text? Or do I have to download skins.

My fuddled mind figured that out.

Now how do I configure the weather and RSS feeder in the HUD.Vision skin.. it's the one linked above.  Going to keep fiddling with it.

Right Click -> Skin Menu -> Edit Skin

From there it's pretty straightforward code, notes are pretty decent in all of them, particularly Vision.
