I have a question.

Why are you not releasing and marketing this as a separate product?

Make it a directsound device, get some marketing out there on the online roleplay forums and use it to finance your MMO project.

I really don't want to be a technology provider (for VoIP and TTS), and besides, a few companies like Ventrillo are already vying for the spot.

Kind-of both... I'm using a 3D renderer to produce 360-degree surround-image stills of each room (where rooms are nodal, like MUDs). Objects are also rendered to stills.
