So, Square-Enix is showing a game at the Toyko Game Show with the aforementioned name.

For the PS3.

The question is, therefore: Yet another uninspired FFVII spin-off...or the FFVII remake the fanboys have been screaming for for years?

I thought that turned out to just be a rumor.  I haven't seen any of the news sites actually mention it.

Ah, pity.

If I recall Crisis Core has a mention of that name, or at least hints at an FF7 remake/sequel for the PS3.

We'll meet again in FF7 one day was at the end of the Crisis Core Disc. Also some PR got leaked. Should be a remake. Or at least, a reinvention with less story problems. :P hope so. the game could use fixing.

Sony should've payed for the development of a FF7 remake/spinoff/whatever from the get go, it would move more consoles than a massive price cut. I wouldn't be suprised if that game has the largest following of any game ever made. Also, I need to get a PSP for crisis core  tongue

I think you might be overestimating the amount of people that want to drop half a grand on a system for a game they played 10 years ago, updated graphics or not.

I think you're underestimating the number of people who would see it as a reason to get a PS3. If it were the only game to ever come out on the PS3 then yes, I'd agree that a lot of people wouldn't toss out half a grand for just one game.

Count the number of Clouds and Sephiroths you see cosplaying.

I'm guessing there's about a 90% overlap between people who are really excited about the possiblity of an FFVII remake and people who are really excited about FFXIII and FFXIII VS.  Square and Sony are already tapping that particular fan base.

Wasn't this the Final Fantasy that totally owned Nintendo back in the day?

If you are referring to FFVII being the sole reason many people bought a PS1, instead of an N64, then yes, quite probably.   Losing Squaresoft to Sony back at that time was a big mistake on Nintendos part.
