Ugh... I'm turning 21 in 15 days, and I feel ancient also... But then again, I've always felt old, and never hung out with my age group. People my age act like fucking idiots 90% of the time, the other 10% they are silent. I just HATE THEM SO MUCH!

...Unfortunately, I feel I haven't really lived life to the fullest. Never partied, never did drugs(edit: I did smoke pot a few times, I just don't really think of it when I think of drugs for some reason...), never gotten drunk. My sister and my mom at this age were crazy I guess, so I kinda feel like I missed out (they, trying to be good family, deny that I have). Of course, there are other things to life at this age than drugs and booze, but I still feel like I left the opportunities of youth behind.

At this age I guess I should be looking towards the future, even just for the fact that I have so little past, but I just can't seem to stop my nostalgia.

In terms of partying, drugs and booze, my life got wilder between the ages of 24 and 28.  After I had enough of that, I looked for different ways of finding excitement and adventure.  Opportunities are where you make them and they aren't the exclusive domain of youth.

Admittedly, when I was younger I used to recover quicker!    :-(

It's not too late for sex, drugs and rock n roll, little twat!  And 21 opens up all sorts of new areas of depravity.  Work on it!

The depravity should start right away.  The last thing you want is to wake up on your fortieth birthday and realize you irretrievably suck.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I am undeniably awesome. When I'm 40, I'll be twice as awesome as I was at 20.

What if you wake up well before your 40th birthday and realize that?

I was lucky enough to have a good head on my shoulders and avoid most of the traps of a hedonistic lifestyle. I came out with an odd mishmash of ethics, almost a Garriot-esque ethical hedonism. Also the basis of my libertarianism.

In my opinion, life is an impartial bitch. There is no fair, there is no justice, beyond what we make for ourselves. Kinda bleak, but I find it motivating and it really makes me appreciate when people do good things, and I'm very liberal with my praise for those who do. Anyway, life is also chock full of lessons for those who pay attention and think about things. Rather than get pissed and take on the victim role, figure out how you could have overcome something...and you've just become wiser rather than continuing the same patterns. Too few people take that road, because it's really difficult to be honest with yourself.

One of my favorite quotes is from a homeless guy I knew in Frisco (who knew where all the sweet soup kitchens were when I was impoverished). The closed mouth does not get fed. Basically, do not approach life passively, or it will leave you behind.

Also, know when it's time to be serious about things. The rest of the time, have fun and be silly, don't sweat the small stuff. The toughest part about becoming a wise adult is not losing your fun childhood persona. Some people stay childish their entire lives to their detriment, some get too serious.

Anyway, enough with the wisdom crap, I'm starting to sound like an old man. There was a guy in the library last week, maybe in his 60s, getting books on guitar. He had just started playing. Those are the people who inspire me.

Thanks for your kind words, I never thought I'd get married, but then, I've never met such a good match for myself, either. Until I stopped looking and realized that the girl I always talked to about stuff was so much fun to be around.

See - you should write a guitar book - then when people check it out, you can say, "Good book."

Pretty much how I wound up.  No point in having someone around whose company you don't enjoy!
