The letter that guy wrote to the magazine was almost incomprehensible and I was hoping the last photo would be the magazine guys laughing as the guy stared dumbstruck at how they destroyed his car.

ZOMG 14s, lolz
This is why you save your money. Instead of buying a shit car and trying to "soup it up," for the love of god, just buy a faster car.
But thanks, reading that was sweet, sweet nectar for me.

It comes and goes. It got really really bad right after Fast and the Furious came out. That's pretty much when white kids decided they didn't want to be black anymore; they wanted to be asian. That listened to rap. Blasians. Something. Anyway, I've owned muscle cars since I was 15 (1 Z28, 9 Mustangs, 1 GTO). None have ever remained stock, but none of them got any sort of aesthetic mods besides wheels. Usually, I leave the body very much stock. Hell, I removed the spoilers on the '93 and up Mustangs and now the GTO. Every bit of the mods I did were for the go fast parts (exhaust, intake, tuning, supercharger, etc). It's where I came up with my forum name for most places (SnakeCharmer), since the last three Mustangs I owned were Cobra versions. Never street raced. Won't even think about that. For the longest time, I couldn't go anywhere without some kid in a fartcan exhaust Civic revving his little engine at me, or doing the ricer flyby. That 'article' has been out for a while, but it's still funny.

My 2002 Acura RSX Type-S just got it's first non-standard piece of equipment this week. Much to my dismay, after 60,000 miles and 4 years, it was time to get new ties. I should probably get the burnt out headlight fixed also.

More of a hotrod guy too. I hope I'm rich enough one day to rag out Stingrays without a care in the world. Out of the ricer category, I'd love to have my friend's STi. Though I'm not even sure if that qualifies as a "ricer". He's in some kind of racing circuit, and dropped like 50k in upgrading it (not including the car itself). I want to say Litchfield, but all I know is that the engine is UK.

No lie.

a stock STi is already fucking fast... then again, when you dump 50k into it, at that point you've dumped more than 100k into a car.

I'll try to get details later. I don't think the engine cost that much (think it was 30 to 40k). Not sure what he's down to it exactly -- though I do know that he hasn't even really modified the exterior (just black with gold rims). Even the dash/stereo area is all high tech and shit, with readouts on just about anything.

STi.... That's the Subau, yes? Those cars are quick. Like Stray, I'm a hotrod guy. Give me rear wheel drive, an American V8 (preferably, but not absolutely so), and a manual tranny and I am a happy camper. Four or six cylinder front wheel drives make my eyes bleed. I don't think the engine cost that much (think it was 30 to 40k). Thats just insane. If it's competition, yeah, I can understand that. But sheesh. I used to run a 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 competitively in SCCA club racing that I put together for about 15K (which included the cost of the car itself). Although, the fact that I did 90 percent of the work/mods myself, saved a ton of money. I rebuilt my first engine when I was 14 (a 304 out of '78 Jeep CJ7). My dad's rule was: You break it, you fix it. If you can't fix it, you pay for it to be fixed. If you can't pay to have it fixed, it won't get fixed. You being me.

So I just spoke to him... It's not Litchfield (they're just an importer), but he's using some of the same parts they do. The engine is from Cosworth.
Funny thing is, he's now telling me that he's looking to get one of the new GTR's.

I thought the STi already came with gold rims....
Regardless, he's not a ricer at that point.

Yeah, I was trying to say that he spent a wad of cash without even modding the exterior. Good for him. I guess.

Heh. Ricer to me has always been all show and no go. That's not to say a STi couldnt be rice, especially if they bling it up with a bunch of stickers or whatnot.

I'd give my left nut for that. Or right nut. Either/or (but not both).

I'd give your left nut for that, too. I'd give both your nuts for this, though: Then I'd sell it and buy a couple of these: And a house. PS When I think of Rice Burners, I always think of motor bikes before cars, for some reason.

I don't want to drive the Bugatti, I want to sell it and buy stuff. Well, okay, maybe I want to drive it a little and then sell it. I just thought it was a fair trade for poor old Stray's nuts.

No worries, Stray. If I were actually able to make a trade like that, I would SO buy you that old Chevy you want. (And a house)

I want a Prius. My dream mod? A nice stereo-system I can hook my iPod to directly. It'd be pretty sweet. :)
More on topic -- a friend of mine used to race some sort of stock, did all the work himself. Supposedly was a hell of a better mechanic than a racer. I never saw his stock work, just the 1980 POS Ford truck he somehow managed to keep working. He prided himself on keeping it running at the lowest possible cost.
I looked under the hood once. The radiator was actually held together with wire and some form of epoxy -- apparently he hadn't gotten around to searching junkyards for a replacement. But it worked....

I'm all for hybrid cars in a sense that they help developing of battery technology but I could never understood people buy them. They cost a lot more than gas saving over ownership and they deal more environmental damage in battery production and disposal than regular cars... so why bother? There are much better ways to get fuel economy than hybrids.

I'm all for hybrid cars Edited out all the stuff that wasn't the exact opposite of reality. Frankly, the part I left in is a little suspect as well. Also, that Bugatti looks like a rental bowling shoe. Anyone who'd actually buy that for what they're probably charging should have all their money taken away.
