Sort of an odd question but here goes;
A few times a week I wake up and can barely see out of one eye, everything appears blurry, like I don't have my glasses on. It never sticks to one eye. One day it will be left one day it will be right. I'm wondering if I am sleeping with an eye open and it dries out or something, but I don't think thats it.
If anyone can come up with an idea why this is happening, please say something.
Thanks.
(Move this if it's in the wrong place please :)
Edit: I should mention that it lasts for 15 minutes to around an hour, and never effects both eyes.

Uhm, if you post about it on gaming forum, you deserve to go blind.
That said, it might be a brain tumor (recently learned a whole lot about them:/) or some other _ugly_ neurological problem. Vision nerves are weakest of them all. Any headches recently?

No headaches or any other medical problem.
I do realize that if I posted ONLY on a forum (any forum) to find information about this, I would be retarded. I've asked my mother (who is a nurse) and my sister (who has worked at an optometrists office for 10 years). They didn't know anything specific (of course they aren't experts) so I have a doctor appointment scheduled.

There are SO many questions that would need to be answered before a dx could be attempted. The fact that it's bilateral makes this an interesting case, but I know nothing about your migraine history, any endochrine disorders, CV health, results of recent eye exams, prescription history, ... the list goes on.
Rather than giving a complete medical history here, I encourage you to see a GP and get a referral to a licensed specialist (perhaps Opthamologist (NOT Optometrist) and/or neurologist). I'd do it as soon as possible as sight is something to take precautions with.
Sorry I wasn't more help.

My standard response to this sort of thing is: GO TO A DOCTOR. Since you've already got an appointment scheduled (this: "There have been new posts since" feature is nice), it's moot. Any history of diabeties in your family, by the way? Blurred vision is a sign of hypoglycemia -- does it go away quicker if you eat? First thing in the morning, bilateral and intermittent....blood sugar would be my first guess, but that's just because I dated a diabetic with those symptoms. :)

The point is that no good doctor will ever give you dx online, without seeing you face-to-face. That leaves you with horrible quacks and people who don't have a f* clue.
And few guys who will tell you to go and see a real GP. Really, pointless.
Only advice I can give you - don't take "oh, just get used to it, NEXT!" as an answer.

I do actually have a family history of diabetes, but I think only 1 or 2 people had it (I don't). I'm not sure if it goes away if I eat, if it happens again before the appointment I'll see. I don't take any medication except for the occasional Advil or something like that, and almost never have headaches and never had a migraine.
Don't worry, I won't take the don't worry about it answers seriously.
I was pretty much just asking in case someone had something similar happen to them/someone they knew and it was serious (I probably should have stated that in the OP).
Thanks for the replies!

Only thing I've heard like that was my ex-gf and her blood sugar issues. But I never asked her to describe it -- she just said her vision was often blurry when her blood sugar got low.
If you're seeing a real doctor, with your family history, he'll probably check your blood sugar anyways -- in addition to testing for the eighty-three million other things it might be.

Sometimes certain arthropods will drink your tears while you sleep. These are generally not the same ones that lay eggs in your ears.

My vision is occasionally blurry when I wake up. It usually happens when I've been sleeping in an odd position (like with my pillow pressed into half of my face) and it always gets better after I've spent a minute or two being upright and blinking. I never even thought to worry about it, since it's been happening for as long as I can remember. Am I going to die?

It's hard to express in words how much I hate this thread. It's become even worse than the thread about everyone's lumps.

If he's just got that bleary-eyed "I just woke up" shit going, then he's being a total pussy. However, I suspect it's more than "It's early, I'm not awake, and my eyes are still 'Screw you, I want to sleep'. Generally doesn't hurt to go to the Doc, unless he says "Hmm. I think it's time we do something about your blood pressure, and be here tomorrow for 56 million -- and totally seperate -- blood draws 'just in case'.". I feel fucking old.

I've had a few days where I've woken up and couldn't see nearly anything for over 2 hours. It turns out I sleep with my eyes open sometimes. Seriously. May wanna look into that. Or put eye-drops in before you go to bed.

My wife does that. It's fucking freaky, is what it is. She's laying there, snoring, and staring at you. It's not natural.

Great now I'm imagining myself lying there like a dead person with my eyes open with bugs crawling out of every orifice in my skull. Now I wish I didn't post this .

This is not a board for the faint of heart. If you're not careful, someone will post charts showing that UO trammel patch is the leading cause of blurry vision in gamers.

Judging by the photo, I'd guess Navy.
