Bioware licenses Unreal Engine 3 for use in future unannounced game.

Apparently, it's using an new intellectual property, not licensed, not Jade Empire or Dragon Empire. The things a dev like Bioware could do with the Unreal engine. It's a tantalizing thought.

The future looks bright for first person RPGs indeed. Troika with the HL2 engine, and Bioware with Unreal tech.

I wonder what sort of RPG it would be...a RPG with true FPS/twitch elements?

Consider me tantalized.

They've yet to recreate the magic that led their founders to put out the Fallout games for Interplay.  Arcanum was a goddamn crime.

I thought Arcanum was ok, the setting and story were well done, only thing it really lacked was a good combat system. It's true it wasn't on par with Fallout, but then again there aren't many games that are.

I'm really looking forward to their new post-apocalyptic game, and I'm still really upset about Bethseda getting the Fallout license instead of Troika.

I'm hoping the MOD I've sunk 3 years into will be compelling enough for your target demographic:

This project's trying to accomplish merging those RPG/FPS genres using the SOURCE engine.   I approached Bioware with a promotional DVD at the GDC but we all know what the big companies do with things like this :(

They can't legally look at your dvd. Thanks for playing the game though! Come back again next year!

Well, it's in their custody.  If they didn't/don't look at it, at least they had enough common courteousy to not throw it in the trash in front of me the way a certain other company did at the GDC.   That was rather demoralizing.

True.  Then again, there is also the fact that Arcanum looked like day old, warmed over ass.  Seriously, fucking Diablo 1 looked 100x better then that game did.

It's possible but given Bioware's background I wouldn't count on it. After all Lineage II uses the Unreal engine but it isn't a twitch game. In other words just because Unreal/Unreal Tournament are twitch games doesn't mean other games built with the Unreal engine have to be twitch games.
