Here's the scary thing for Florida. Tebow is a freshman and he's got a great arm.

God, the SEC is going to be even more brutal.

Their best receiver is also a freshman.

I'm confused.
Yellow, teal.  But not pink.  No pink.  That is for chicks, ok?
Be happy you have a color.  Us foozles have the lovely and familiar tan.

(I do agree purple is a great color, but really, do you expect to get what you want? tongue)

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Tebow is overrated, and he rode the coattails of Chris Leak to come in on odd plays that looked good. Teebow is a good man to throw into a package to shake up a defense in the red zone. He is not the guy you want to lead a drive 60 yards down the field. His play this year is based entirely on the coaching genius of Urban Meyer putting him in the perfect situations to succeed. That won't be the case if he starts.

He was one of the most highly recruited QBs in the country. He was used a certain way because that was his role. Next year he will get the whole playbook.

Um...who cares? I've watched him play in college. He's an incredible runner, and that's where he was used because Florida had no defined tailback. He threw for 33 passes in 2006, that's it. On the other hand he ran 89 times. That won't continue as a starter.

Let's be clear, this is the SEC, known primarily for defensive prowess. If he tries to get happy feet against teams like Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, and Georgia, he'll get injured before the end of the season.

So was Matthew Stafford. High school doesn't mean a lot when you're the starting QB in college for every down. Time will tell, but I'm taking the Parcell's "Put away the annoiting oil" approach from Florida fans. It got really annoying when they were shitting on their own starter who won them a National Title.

And to think Alabama was ahead of this team until the fourth quarter this season.

And that was with Mike "deer in the headlights" Shula.

Now, with the all powerful Nick Saban, who was probably given a bigger reception than if Jesus Christ had arrived at Tuscaloosa with angels and dancing girls, the Crimson nation waits for next year.

With the way we fire coaches, it's tough to say if Shula could have done anything given another year.  We did lose some key players in the last season to injuries and graduation.  If they let Saban go for having a bad season after a damn good season, then it had better be a season with only two wins, not some bullshit where we suck wind in conference play.  But yeah, fuck Shula.  Roll Tide!

Did you attend UA?  I was there from 91-97 (undergrad, masters).

But yes, when Saban arrived it went completely fucking apeshit.  Wait until tonights UA/LSU basketball game when he is introduced.

Alabama is going to be strong next year, IMHO.  Shula couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag, but I will give him serious credit in recognizing talent and getting it there.  The cupboard isn't bare at the Capstone.  He has WAY more talent than he did at LSU when he was hired on over there.

If they can get some (ok, ALOT) improvement out of the offensive line, the offense has unlimited potential.   Record setting QB in Wilson (So), two record setting receivers in Hall (Jr) and Brown (Jr), with more than able backups in Oakley (So), Caddell (Jr), and Stover (So), and Johns (So) at RB...Wilson may not have a cannon of an arm, but he makes the right decisions and is accurate.  Alabama is YOUNG.

Bama was in every game this season, and had no problems driving the ball up and down the field; even with ShulaRader's plain vanilla playcalling.  They just imploded inside the 20, and eventually lost confidence in themselves WHEN they got in the 20's.  They hung with Florida until the 4th.

For a year, 1990. Family issues forced me to finish at the University of South Alabama. I can't complain, I got an internship i wouldn't have gotten if I had stayed at UAT and I wouldn't be on the path I am to day if not for that.

He's currently Elvis, the Beatles just after the Sullivan show and the pope in South America in one package. He's going to burn that capital as he completely remakes Alabama's program from the ground up, but it was long overdue.

There's a lot of pieces to build on. Wilson can be an outstanding game manager, and the O line will continue to improve. The schedule will be tougher, and the league will be moving forward as well.

It's going to be a very, very interesting off season.

Actually, IMHO, the schedule gets easier (to a degree):
West Carolina - Home
Vandy - Away
Arkansas - Home
Georgia - Home
FSU - Away
Ole Miss - Away
Tenn - Home
Miss State - Away
LSU - Home
LA Monroe - Home
Auburn - Away
SEC Championship - Atlanta (may as well be home, as close as it is)
NC Championship - The Sugar Bowl is next on the BCS rotation to host the NC, so that's just about a home game as well.

Yes, I am boldly predicting a NC run next year :P

I'm just saying there's a reason they almost threw Chris Leak off the bus when Tebow signed, and it's not because of his running alone. He is a nigh perfect fit for the Meyer Spread attack. With a stud tailback, they're going to be  a tough matchup.

Arkansas will be better next year. FSU will be a challenge, especially with Jimbo Fisher  calling the offense at FSU now. LSU hates 'Bama now for bringing Saban back to the SEC.

That Sun Belt creamy center will probably disappear in the next few years.

Yep, did my undergrad there from 94-98.  Lived in Birmingham from 1999-early 2001.  My boss in the 'Ham was an Auburn fan.  That job sucked.

As far as the offense goes, I'd like to see Wilson throwing more, but someone had better break him of his habit of throwing picks and muffing the snap.  It's not time for "whoopsie" mistakes when you're the a decent passer and you play for the Tide.  Also, I'd like to see the ball going to Jimmy Johns more often.  Not only is he same name as my favorite sandwich franchise, but I think he's a damn fine player.

It always blows my mind that people don't take SEC football more seriously.  It's some of the toughest ball in the nation, really.

To the LA and NY based media the SE is just a bunch of rhubarbs who can barely put our shoes on. It's not that shocking the SEC is passed over because we beat the hell out of each other all the time. You think another team like Auburn's undefeated run is going to happen again in the next decade? Maybe two? Hell no. And they still didn't get the title nod.

His TD to Int ratio wasn't too bad, really (17:10).  He still came out with a 126 qb rating.  He's got a bad habit of telegraphing his receivers though.

Word around the proverbial campfire (everyone has a source, right? ;) ) was that Shula was bad about playing favorites, and not necessarily the best player.  Also, there are times when I wonder if the Oline simply didn't particularly like Darby and all the attention he was getting.  It astounded me that Shula didn't play Johns more, when it was clear that Johns was the superior player.

Exactly.  However, I heard an interesting point on the local sportstalk radio this afternoon on the way home (www.wnsp.com, a GREAT station covering all sports, and all teams, NOT just the home teams).  The last three NC won by the SEC in the last 10 years were coached by:
Spurrier at Florida
Saban at LSU
Meyers at Florida

What did they all have in common?

None of them had perfect seasons when they won.  Each had one loss.  Tubberville has to STILL be screaming about getting snubbed.
Had it been Alabama, Florida, LSU, or Tennessee that had gone undefeated (despite that LSU only recently became a powerhouse in the last 5 years) UP to the NC game, does anyone really think they would get left out?  My answer is no, they wouldn't have.  Maybe it's a bit of my homer bias talking here, but I still think AU is trying to get viewed as one of the elite programs in the SEC, much less the country.  They're still looked down as Alabama's little brother, despite having won 5 in a row.

The media has been and always will be in love with the ND's, the USC's, the Michigans, and the Ohio State's of the NCAA.

Hell, ND gets points in the top 25 just for the goddamned television contract with NBC, in my own conspiratorial mind...

It's pretty nutty to claim that the SEC doesn't get enough attention from those notoriously anti-American elitists: coastal sportswriters.  The SEC is constantly touted as the best or, at absolute least, one of the two best, conferences in college football.  Now, I can understand everyone's frustration that Evil Coastal Media spends too much time fellating Notre Dame (which is located in Manhattan, right?), Ohio State of San Diego and The University of Michigan-Boston, but it's just plain loopy to say that SEC football isn't given enough coverage or love.

The 2004 Auburn thing is hard to explain with this theory given the facts that (a) non-coastal Oklahoma got a spot in the title game (and nobody doubted USC deserved the other spot, especially after they narrowly lost a spot the previous year to LSU, who plays in....wait....wait....the SEC) and (b) non-coastal Texas got a BCS bid over coastal Cal that same year after lots of lobbying.

The 2004 Auburn debacle is proof that preseason polls are the devil, not that there is some jihad against the SEC by latte-sipping atheist homosexuals at the NY Post sports page.

After thinking about it I think Triforcer was merely stating something in German about The Florida The.

LOL totally not what I meant, but I can see the misconception. What I meant is that the sportswriters love to "tout" the SEC as a great conference until it's time to vote. It's like the guy that tells you his best friends are black, then when he's not in public he does nothing but tell racist jokes. Actions speak louder than words in my book. Notre Dame hasn't won a damn bowl game in 12 years, but they are still there in big games. Why? Media. And I can't point at coastal media for this, just media in general for some reason I can't wrap my mind around.

USC plays in a conference that can barely play out of it's own shadow. Since 1959, USC has won or shared the Pac-10 title 24 times. Hell, they've won every Pac-10 title for the last 5 years. That's absolutely ridiculous in terms of parity. However, even though they lose two games in a season to unranked opponents, they end up in the top 5. I wonder why. Hell MICHIGAN lost to a #1 and a #2, but they end up 8th in the rankings at the end of the season. I mean come on.

My point is this...I agree with you about preseason polls, and nothing is more reflective about how messed up they can be if you look at these two programs in relation to other teams in any conference. Auburn, Boise State, the list goes on and on with teams that may have been more deserving at times but couldn't get the votes in the BCS. It's the fault of the media and their backers that we don't have a playoff, that we still have these stupid polls that decide the fate of teams, and that we'll never see a true champion in college football until it's dealt with.
