You deserve to get shot for lining up to buy PS3. Linky

Quote
In Putnam, Connecticut, two gunmen tried to rob people lined up for the console, and shot one who refused to surrender his money. Michael Penkala, 21, of Webster, Massachusetts, was wounded in the chest and shoulder. He was in stable condition Friday with injuries not believed to be life threatening, according to Connecticut State Police.

Suckers. They prefer to get robbed by Sony.

Are you trying to be a dick or does it just come naturally?

Not surprising, but it still sucks. I feel sorry for the guy who got mugged by 5 people just after he got his.

They usually don't. Most times they're rubber balls that hurt like a bitch. But, I guess since they're all lining up for a PS3 the police didn't think they could take such pain.

They probably thought that repeated use of a taser might damage the Playstations.

No one deserves to get shot or even robbed while waiting in line to buy anything other than crystal meth, crack or heroin.

However, being 350th in line to buy a console at a place that probably won't have more than a couple of dozen in Connecticut in November is absolutely deserving of a head cold and mild bronchitis.

Some police use paintballs loaded with pepper spray. I'm told it's quite effective.

So the police actually buy the paintball guns (my nephew is a pretty active paintballer (?)... in fact, he was the first person in the NE United States to get Lyme Disease because of it or something like that.   :-()  and you can actually get those balls filled with pepper?  I've never heard of the police using this sort of stuff.  I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing but it's certainly an interesting thing.  It has such potential, too.  Fill 'em up with honey and let loose the bears!  Or something.

They could just cut to the chase and fill the balls with bears.

Yeah that guy what got shot? Turns out he was an unemployed Ebay profiteer waiting in line with his 3 friends to buy 4 PS3's to sell on Ebay.

After being shot, he was more concerned that his friends got their systems than the bleeding. Fuckhead.

This guy didn't fare so well.

Quote
A teenager accused of robbing a student of two new Playstation 3s on the day the popular game consoles were introduced was shot to death by police sent to arrest him.

Peyton Strickland, 18, was killed Friday at a house he shared with three roommates, New Hanover County Sheriff Sid Causey said.

[..]

The State Bureau of Investigation is examining the case and three deputies on the team were placed on paid leave, normal practice whenever officers fire their weapons, Causey said.

[..]

Strickland’s dog, a German shepherd, also was shot to death.

This same story is the one I wanted to bring up.  People have been jumping on both sides, to the defense of the officer or the deceased.  Unfortunately, the story lacks a bit of details, making it tough to determine whether or not the officer was justified to shoot or not.

On one hand, here we have an 18 year old kid gunned down in the prime of his life.  He was young, had he lived another ten years he'd probably be a very different person.

On the other hand, in order to obtain the PS3, this same 18 year old kid and his buddy drove their car up to another guy's, go out, bludgeoned him a 6-foot blunt object, and stole his new PS3 purchase out of his twitching hands.  Though the victim escaped with "bumps and bruises", these idiot kids could very well have killed someone in their stunt to get their hands on this console.

If that's what they consider the proper way to get their hands on a PS3, you've got to wonder how the rest of their life is like.  One of them getting gunned down in cold blood in his own home is probably just the karma of their lifestyle manifesting in the worse possible way.  Live fast, live dangerous: die young.  You hear it all the time.

If any innocent died in this one, it'd be the Germand Shepard who was innocent on virtue of just being a dog.  Of course, if I've got a gun in my hand and a German Shepard driven into a blood frenzy in its desire to avenge its fallen master, I'm not going to ease up on the trigger.

Some of think of it, there's a third guilty party in that story.  The guy that bought two PS3s.  I betcha he was planning on eBaying one or both for double its price.  That's probably not worth geting beaten by a six foot object, but the inner gamer suggests it might be.

Consider there are idiots out there willing to pay two to three times the price instead of waiting a few months.  I don't particularly like greed, but I cannot see that he did anything wrong.

There is when there's a limited supply and they're snatching the PS3s out of the hands of people who can't afford to pay double the price on eBay.

What's the advantage of having it NOW? You get some of the games out of the way?

Do the sane thing - wait a few months. Until like...March. That's what I keep telling people in Gamestop anyway.  evil

True, but there's a difference between an unsubstantiated cliche and one you can find periodic supporting evidence for.
