Red Mages are one of the best solo classes in the game!
Here is how you solo as a red mage:
Cast a bunch of buffs on yourself. (Stoneskin, enspell, etc) Cast a bunch of debuffs on enemy (paralyze, dia, blind, slow) Engage If you get low on health, cast sleep, heal, rebuff, etc
As a Red Mage I could easily solo anything that conned as "easy prey" and most things that conned as whatever the next step is up from that. ("Decent challenge" IIRC) Some "even matches", depending on mob type. (Even match mandragora for example)

Oh, I could take easy prey fine one-on-one. I was referring to getting an add. If I got an add while trying to farm, I was dead meat. That would happen about 1 out of 4 times I attacked it seemed. Maybe it wasn't that bad, but I remember it that way. It has been about 2 years now, so it is all fuzy now.
I've heard they have softened the game somewhat too, so that may not be a normal experience anymore.
