I want to feel like anything I make is necessary to somebody and they are willing to pay a decent price for it. I don't get that feeling from WoW. Hopefully, they continue to improve upon that though. It would really round out the game in my opinion.
I can agree with that. But I am sure it will never approach UO's level for two reasons: equiment doesn't wear out/break, and your gear is not lootable.
To be honest, I never expected player-crafted items to be worthwhile at all in WoW for the simple reason that there is no secondary market for gear with their soulbinding system. The most useful 'crafted' stuff are potions and enchantments.

I don't follow. What does the primariness or secondariness of the market have to do with crafting?
The only limitation it places is that you can't resell your equipment. That is a factor whether the gear is crafted, hunted, harvested, or anything.

Well, that's true. I guess I sort of equate the soulbinding system to an unrelenting requirement to replace your gear every few levels, shifting the market from a hand-me-down auction house focused gearing system to a 'armor for quest rewards' system. it doesn't really have anything do with it in and of itself. It was blizzard's choice to make a very limited number of cratable items, and make quest rewards and random drops better in almost all cases that pretty much killed it.
