Lots of times pools lower your land value.
Look, my point is, if you can't afford a pool, it's one of the last things you should buy, it's a complete and total indulgence. It's the same principle of why you only tak out 15 year mortgages, and buy cars you can obtain free and clear from day one, if at all possible.

I disagree, pools are a great place to have parties and its one of the best forms of exercise especially if you are old and your bones are too weak to go running. And no, I wouldn't do it, not enough money!

What specifically do you disagree with? The fact that pools often lower land value rather than raise it? That's nothing new, it's because the largest potential pool (lol) of homebuyers are older people, and are thus disinclined to do all the maintenance that a pool requires. Inground pools are a lot of work.
Or perhaps you disagree with my position on prudent spending and financing?
