I'm going to be in Tucson this weekend. Staying at Best Western Royal Sun. http://www.bwroyalsun.com/Don't know anything about transportation or anything like that. Stuff to do? I was thinking of seeing if I could catch a baseball game but I'm not sure I'll have time then. What else? My flight leaves at 5 AM so respond quickly or forever hold your peace.

The Desert Museum (standard tourist spot) is nice and yah, we've got the baseball in town. We've got a somewhat crappy zoo, a smallish botanical garden, some decent malls, and a lot of hiking opportunities. 4th avenue has a lot of unique shops if you're into that crap. Otherwise, hmm, there's a lot of decent restaurants you eat at. Cafe Poca Cosa is a nice trendy Mexican food place while El Minuto is a nice authentic/simple Mexican food place. Athens on 4th serves good greek food. Most of the good Italian places are probably already booked for the weekend. There's a lot of bars around, but since I don't really drink on a regular basis, (don't think I've been to a bar in a couple years) I couldn't recommend one. I really wouldn't recommend using the public transportation unless you're rather fond of the mentally handicapped/insane, poor folk, or speak a lot of spanish. People that can afford cars don't ride the bus in the city unless it's part of a park'n'ride to a ball game. Really, there isn't much do in Tucson that's very interesting and awe inspiring. It's a city that's great to live in, not visit.

It's starting to get back up into the 80s too. Nice shorts/t-shirt weather. Enjoy the "UofA" ass shorts.

For bonus points gain access to the student rec center / gym / pool. I think I failed a couple of classes because of that place...

Well, I ate at Athens and took a stroll though campus. But I walked through campus on a Saturday, not a ton of people around. Still plenty of girls in short shorts and tank tops and such.
I'm not a huge fan of the really tan look but it was a nice change of pace from 30 degree Mass weather and clothing.
I tried to find some Tex-Mex place to eat at but couldn't round up anything decent. (I ate at "Chuys" once on the way to something)
Desert museum was cool. Mountain lions are big.

Yah, weekends are pretty barren around the campus. Anything before 3pm and most people are still probably sleeping off what they did in the wee hours of the morning. Hoped you liked Athens.. I should have recommended you get the Tiri Saganaki for an appetizer. Flaming cheese.. you can do no wrong with that. If you ever find yourself at a Chuy's again, try the mesquite shrimp skewers. The place is just bar food, but it's decent bar food. I always enjoy the desert museum, except when all of the felines are sleeping. My wife and I went there free when it was one of the places we were considering getting married at.

You tried to find 'Tex-mex'. In Tucson, Arizona. Someone force feed this apostate some decent Sonoran food. Please? Trying to find 'Tex-Mex' in Arizona is as heretical as trying to find decent Lobster in Texas. What the hell is wrong with you boy?

Tex-Mex or real Mexican, or something...southwest food of some sort.
I was is Tucson, not Phoenix.
Most of the cats were sleeping when I was at the desert museum but the Ocelot was moving around at least. So were some of the Javalinas. (Or whatever you call them)
Athens was good, I love Greek food. (Being part Greek myself) Whenever I cook (which is not often) I put olives, capers, feta or goat cheese on basically everything.

Went to college at the UoA. Spent a few years In Phoenix. Got the fuck out then my internal thermostat hit 'par-broiled'. ;) Still pine for Los Dos Molinos on Central and Baseline now and then though. Denver-Mex, while not bad, just doesn't compare.

I spent four hours in Tucson five years ago. My detailed travel guide follows....
It was hot, they had cactus, my colleague had trouble understanding that you don't pronounce it 'Tuck-son'.
So, in summary, dress light, don't touch the sharp looking plants, and avoid voiceless velar plosives.
If at any time in the future you need someone to be exactly this helpful, you know where I am.
