New bloodlines are up on Singularity (test server). Cute, eh? That's about three rolls of lip gloss, though. New Dev Blog here, with a good chunk of the patch notes for that will go with the new bloodlines.

Mmm, newbie stats. Khanid with combat choices during creation, if anyone is curious. I also got gunnery 5, small energy turret 3 or 4 and targetting & sharpshooter at 1.

gunnery 5 I wasn't aware you could any skill higher than a 4...that seems almost overpowered to me. That is a week's worth of training right there.

The new bloodlines are much more focused then the old ones, some vets are claiming this is intentional to help new players catch up quicker.

How dare they prevent noobs from having to slog through 5 months of bullshit! I had to do it, blah, blah, blah. Eve, in regards to it's playerbase, is hardly unique from other MMOs on this matter. The vets also fail to realize that, oh right, they spent 3 years getting all those skills through various patches. For noobs to compete they can't require the same timeframes, or else the game will stumble.

Yeah I just can't see it as a big deal, eventually they will add some more skill lines that are primary CHA and then people with the new super focused bloodlines will be gimped compared to the old ones. At the end of the day I think its a good idea to let newbies get a minor minor stat bonus and the new characters look good so it seems like a good thing to me.

They do look good. I may have to consider making one and then paying to have the pic transfered to my main character =)

Can only have the pic transfered to same race/bloodline. So if you want one - you have to make one.

Did they add anything to the existing bloodlines in terms of avatar creation?

I haven't heard, but I doubt it. Usually when you move over to a new hardawre system you stick with what currently works rather than introduce new things that could cause issues.

Blood is supposed to happen by March 15th is what I had heard when I was on my alts doing some shopping and seeing the newbie corp chat channels.

They said they are changing data centers, so I suppose everything at the original facility has been shut down. This should include the part that pushes character information for the HTML server.
I predict Friday.

Yeah they were 4 hours under the deadline, I dont remember the last time a patch/update/server downtime took less time then advertised.

Then again - I don't recall the last time a dev team said, "We're taking 24 hours."
However I am a firm supporter of the underpromise and overdeliver.

Hehe actually wow has pulled the 24 hour mainteance more than a couple times now. Although usually they say it will be down for a couple hours and winds up being 24 hours. I would rather they flat you tell you its down a day and wind up being open before that.

The only problem with underpromise/overdeliver is that, while it makes your customers happier in the long term, it tends to make them someone else's customers in the short term.

Since I've only been playing for five days, I'm thinking of rerolling as one of the new bloodlines to get a jump on my skills. Does the corp have a need for anything in particular?

You can make some pretty sick combat characters with two of the bloodlines, check the forums and sift through the vets whining about the superiority of the new ones to find details.
But if you dont want to do anything other then pure combat I'm not sure a re-roll is worth it, I may be wrong though.

I am not going to reroll (2m points on Yegolev) but I will be looking over the new lines. If there isn't one or two commercial slanted ones, that would be sort of sad... except that I'd be assured of slightly less competition in the asteroid belts.

I believe Matar and/or Amarr have research/production oriented bloodlines. One of them can get like 20 int at start or something..

I spent a little time in the creator and I am not sure how this is done. As far as I can tell, you still need to be Intaki if you want to min/max the Int and Mem. Maybe I am missing something.

My alt is Minmatar, the new bloodline. After picking my schooling/etc I ended up with 14 mem, 11 int and 10 charisma. So not stellar, but not bad either. The Charisma is good since I have to learn a buncha social skills for the corp anyways.

How does this stuff work? My trial account ends in a couple of days, and I'm going to get a normal account, so I could use any explanations available.

How does character creation work? Well, I'm a newbie, so take this with a grain of salt, but my understanding is this: -Higher attributes = faster skill times, and different attributes are more important for different skill sets. For example, perception is important in a lot of skills required for PvP, so if you're going for PvP, if you put a lot of points into perception, you'll train those skills faster. If you're going to try for a fairly broad character, you'll generally want average attributes across the board, because the time you gain by adding five points to an attribute is not as high as the time you loose by taking five points away from an attribute (the exception to this is charisma, which most people avoid because charisma is only useful to a few specialized skills in the social and leadership/corporate areas). The new bloodlines (especially the Amaar and Caldari ones) can have fairly high perception scores, which means you can do some really focused PvP builds with them (but you don't want to get too carried away, since even hardcore PvP pilots need some techy skills to mount and operate the really swish gear, and those skills are often intelligence based). Each bloodline starts with a set of attributes which you can modify with five bonus points. Then, after that, you choose your background and training, which gives you further attribute bonuses. -The new bloodlines can start with higher skills. My Khanid started with Gunnery at level 5 and small energy turrets at level 4 (and a smattering of other misc junk), which puts him at 300,000 skill points or so on day one. My older Caldari guy has, in total, something like half that after a week of playing. This is not a big deal for vets, but for newbies, this can give you a big head start. Starting skills are also selected in your background and training stages of character creation. The ideal way to handle this, in my opinion, is to try to get one or two skils as high as you possibly can (rather than a diverse mix of skills), because it can take days to train a skill to level five, but you can usually pick up level one in an hour or two. At least, that's the extent of my limited understanding.

In my opinion you want a fairly balanced set of specs for your main character so that he can do anything without being at too much of a disadvantage. I would only choose unbalanced specs for a second account guy that I planned to specialize into a total fighter or total miner/builder. That even applies to charisma as far as I'm concerned. CCP seems to take great joy in throwing out curveballs. They know that the prevailing wisdom is that charisma is useless and I'll bet anything that they plan to put in an uberskill based on it at some point.
Of course I have to say that because I made my guy without knowing what I was doing so charisma is my highest naturul stat. :)
