That's right, this is the day we've all been waiting for. It's time to go live with the new cluster. This Tuesday, in a 24 hour extended downtime, old Tranquility hardware is replaced with 70 new IBM 64-bit AMD dual processor blade servers. This operation should double, if not triple the performance on our proxy and application layers.
This is a very high-risk and extensive upgrade and we suggest you set long skill training, in case anything goes wrong. Join us in wishing our server crew good luck.
As someone who copies large Oracle databases on a regular basis using both experience and a tight process refined over years, I submit that there will be issues. I will be shocked if the 24-hour window is not violated, actually; then again, CCP is pretty damn good at their jobs, from what I can tell. On the other hand, Oursulaert cannot possibly get any worse. |

Never tempt fate like that. There's nothing so bad that it can't get more fucked up. You are correct, but the only way Ours could get much worse is if it disappeared entirely and took my pilot and my dog with it. I guess I shouldn't rule that out. |

According to the boards there was a 200 ship fleet battle that crashed an entire region over the weekend.
I'll be activating training in BC IV on Monday, which is a five day+ train, I suggest everyone else do something similar.

That was Goonfleet, engaging NSN I think in the last 10 minutes before downtime. For those that haven't experienced one of these big CCP downtimes before, there is a hidden motivation to set a long skill for training (one considerably longer than the projected downtime). Word has it that in the past, when downtime has extended far past what their original prediction was, CCP has gone into the DB and set all active players skill training forward 1 day as a way of appeasing everyone. So, if, for example, downtime lasts 2 days instead of 1, CCP will fiddle the DB so your character will get 3 days training during that time. If you have a skill that takes less than 3 days to complete, you just get up to that skill's completion and no more. |
