I just noticed this: The skill requirement for Small Tractor Beam I has changed from Graviton Physics level 1 to Science level 4.
Nice for me, and probably others. Need to get a tractor beam now. Buddy list online/offline indicator has been fixed (again).
Heh, this will be the first thing I check out. Cargo containers that do not belong to you are now yellow, not red.
Awesome.

How effective are tractor beams? Anyone used 'em?

I haven't used 'em, and only read a few things on them. IIRC they have a 20km range and use a high slot. They're obviously a PVE tool, so if you can afford to dump a turret/ missle bay on your big, slow-ass PVE rigs (BC, BS) then it's probably worth it. Not so much on Cruisers/ Frigates which are speedy enough to cover that 20km range in a few seconds.

My mining cruiser moves at a blistering 187m/s, but the small incentive I have to try one is so I can loot drops without moving out of range of my jetcan while mining. Is it worth dropping a Miner I? I would doubt that since I think I'd prefer the "guaranteed" revenue from ore over the chance of getting something nice in a loot drop. It's just cool that it's an option now.

Great for the hauler guy in a corp mining venture when jet can mining Due to drones optimal range and not having a shit load of cans around all the miners tend to be in a group which makes it difficult for the big ass hauler to get to the can to empty it - give him a tractor beam and he only needs to get within 20km (so probably the belt warp in point) and he can bring the can to him Saves time and reduces hair loss for the hauler player

It's definitely not worth dropping a miner 2 for but if you're mining in a vexor I think the tractor beam can go into that 5th slot that won't take a turret. What I like about it for mining is that I think I'll be able to use it to drag the jetcan that I'm mining into into range of new ore if it's not full yet and I don't feel like starting a new can.

Putting one on the hauler sounds like the best idea I have heard so far.

Yeah, this is going to increase my ore stealing capabilities by 200%.

Wouldn't that move the can so the miners can no longer transfer ore into it?

Oh wow. I never thought of that at all. And 20km takes a long, long time in my iteron 3. :)

This is the best idea yet. Really, since I don't fly a big hauler right now, plus I am still borrowing Big Bertha and don't have my own Iteron. Like you said, though, it would be fine in a slot that won't take a mining laser. Someone try to tractor an asteroid. I know it won't work, but try it anyway.

Unfortunately I'm reliably informed that you can only move 'friendly' (i.e. yours or corp) cans with it.....

I assume it works while your engines are engaged, so towing should be an option as long as the can moves at a reasonable pace. I am mostly asking because I misplaced mine and can't test right now.
