wants a greif tittle

Hey guys, as some of you know, I work on Mac, for photoshop.

I recently upgraded to the latest version of OSX, and the window/folder options are driving me nuts. Could one of you with more mac experiance help me out?

1) I would REALLY like it if when I open a new folder, it would start in list view.

2) Is there a way to set my perfernces and have them stick for all folders?
It really seems like there is a drastic lack of customability.

I have found the folder options, and also folder preferences, but they have hardly any options at all.

Maybe some one could point me to a website, or just tell me how to do this stuff.

It's supposed to remember your settings when you close the window.

But...it remembers different settings depending on how you open the Finder window, like dbl clicking the HD icon vs clicking the Finder Dock icon. And sometimes the changes don't seem to stick.

I'm on 10.2 on this machine because I'm too lazy to upgrade and blow out all my customizations. My biggest complaint about OSX is how they change so much crap between point upgrades, then force us to pay to upgrade. I've run the same copy of WinXP at home since 2001, but in the same time I've paid for 3 full OS upgrades with Apple. I guess that's one way to make up for being a marginal player in the OS market. Great OS, though.

My current project is deploying out 10.3 images across subnets. :)

Finder is definitely one of the weaker points of OS X, but here's best described how to do you what you wish - I've found that once you get something set, it "remembers" those preferences... ...a big help for me since I prefer full screen (in laptop mode at least) for all apps...

1) Close all Finder windows.

2) Finder>>Preferences>>General -- uncheck "open new windows in column view".

3) Open a Finder window, and set it up as you would like future finder windows to be...size, position, view options, etc. Do this WITHOUT selecting or modifiying anything in the finder window.

4) Close that Finder window.

From now on, your Finder windows should open up as you like them to.

Ahh, I forgot about that dumb checkbox, that's why it doesn't stick on some machines.

The finder is sticking to the setting I have chosen, but each new "Folder" I double click to open, from my desktop starts with "Icons" and showing the icon bar. What I want is ALL new windows and Folders to open in "List" mode, and with the top right hand minimize button pressed. Its not major, but over time it would save a little bit of time.
