Mike Sherman fired.

I must rejoice. He's the guy I've blamed the Packers' lack of success the last few years on. It started back in 2003 when they blew a game against Kansas City that they were up by like 20 points at the half. But I really realized that year in the playoffs on the 4th and 23 how bad of a coach Sherman really is. With the talent they had on the 2003 team, they could have made the Super Bowl, but he never coached defenses worth a shit. He ran off some of the best defensive players (McKenzie and Darren Sharper) over the years and replaced them with rookies destined to washout in the NFL like Ahmad Carroll. I'm happy to see him gone. I only hope it doesn't mean Favre is gone as well.

Mike Martz gets the axe too.

Here was another guy that thought he was better than the game and the players. He outcoached himself repeatedly. He let the Rams' defense deteriorate over the years, and replaced Warner with Bulger. Warner could still have played as well as Bulger did, and probably have thrown less INT's. It was almost criminal how badly Martz misused Stephen Jackson this year and last. I don't wish Martz ill since he's had health issues this year, but I do think he shouldn't be a head coach. Like Sherman, he's better as an offensive guy.

Mike Tice proves nice guys do finish last.

Tice is a nice guy, but a fuckup as a head coach. The whole ticket scalping thing? Stupid, especially when he then complains at Minnesota fans later in the season selling their tickets to Steelers' fans. Shut the fuck up. Any team that played as badly as they did early in the season didn't deserve a sex cruise. He obviously could never control the locker room. Buh-bye.

Yeah, but he's one I'm sad to see go. I'm not sure who was in charge of picking their Offensive line, but that's who should be fired. That line couldn't stop a defensive line made up of arthritic nuns. Carr's a better QB than he showed this year, and that team should not have been that bad. It didn't help that their defense couldn't get turnovers either.

Those three above wore out their welcome with me long ago. Also, Jim Haslett got shitcanned as well. Like Tice, he was a nice guy, but he couldn't seem to get the most out of his players. New Orleans was the most talented bunch of underachievers in the best of seasons, and this season's troubles with the hurricane just made that worse.

The Bills are going to lose some people too... management has apparently indicated 'some changes will be made'...  tho as is typical of them, they are really vague.

This seals Farve's retirement.  I doubt Farve is going to stick around for a rebuilding year.

The only thing that could keep Favre around is a decent o line. I think given that, he'd stay until he got too old to play. But I don't see that happening...The Bills need new coaches. Dump Jim McNally, he's an o line jinx, the Gints got better without him.

On Martz: yes. Pity the team that hires him as a head coach. Worst clock management evar.

If I was a running back on the team that lands him.. I'd demand a trade.  He really has no use for running the ball.  He considers it something you do when your quarterback is getting tired.

The Eagles are pretty pitiful with clock management as well. I've never seen a team pointlessly blow as many timeouts as the Eagles do.

Then again, I'm happy to see them lose.

Watch Martz coach for a half. Between useless challenges and just calling time outs due to the voices in his head, the Rams are always pressed for time at the end of the half/game.

The NY Giants have been pretty bad about pissing away timeouts in the game's I've watched them play. But I think that's mostly due to Eli's inexperience and trying to audible like he has his brother's experience.

The Eagles and Rams are both pretty similar - they don't run much and their clock management is terrible. At least the Eagles run a fair number of psuedo-run plays like screens and such.

By my count this morning on the way to work we will have seven(!!?) coaches starting their first year on teams in '06?

Yesterday they said the Bills are losing GM Donahoe, or however it's spells, but keeping the coach for now.

That's the rumor floating around.  He has near-diety status around here, tho, so they may go that route to keep fans buying season tickets.

The Bills, of course, haven't said anything official.  They have the worst PR management EVAR.

What is the point of hiring a geriatric GM? They need to hire someone who can build some sort of continuity to the team, not make a couple of quick fixes before he dies.

I do like Levy, though. Having him back in the league would be fun.

Don't the Bills have the same problem as the Texans, no offensive line?  I think that Marv is old school enough to understand the importance of keeping the QB alive and giving the RB some holes.

I saw Marv Levy on the TV last night. I hope I look that good when I'm 80. He looked like he could jump out on the sidelines when it's 2 degrees right now. I think he can "re-energize" that franchise.

Apparently rumor is now that since they fired all his assistants/coordinators, and his GM, and the new GM is a famous former coach... Coach Mularkey is going to cut and run.    There's a press conference tomorrow apparently, with all the juicy details; but reports are he's already said goodbye to the office staff and whatnot.

Mularkey's out.

And the Packers hire San Fran Offensive Coordinator Mike McCarthy.

Excuse me? WHAT THE FUCK?

The Packers have issues with their offense this year, due to all the injuries and complete unknowns they have playing. So who do they hire? A guy who was the O coordinator for THE FUCKING SAINTS AND THE 49ers? Alex Smith, the number one fucking pick QB last year got ONE FUCKING TOUCHDOWN PASS against 11 INT's last year and this guy gets a head coaching position? Favre threw 29 INT's last year because he had no one to throw to and apparently this guy doesn't know how to stop someone throwing INT's.

I fail to see what in McCarthy's background makes Ted Thompson think he'll be any better than Sherman.

Perhaps they are tooling GB to be a running offense? If so, San Fransisco did fairly well in that category despite the derth of talent. They averaged over 100 yards on the ground per game.

I suppose I'm not the only one who can't read the headlines on ESPN without goofing up the new Jets coach's name?  "Jets hire Mangina to be new head coach."

I have the same issues.

In other news, Jim Bates left the Packers as D coordinator. Strange how a guy you refuse to hire as head coach doesn't want to hang around for the new guy. I think I'd have rather they hired Bates, personally. Somehow he turned the shitpen that is the Packers' D into a statistically OK group. I feel bad for the next D coordinator. Maybe they'll rehire Ed Donatell. But I'm sure he'd tell them to go fuck themselves after how they treated him in 2003.
