Startopia is a game I searched for quite a while ago whenever I was in a gaming store. I was never able to find it. It popped up on one of those illegitamate sites a couple days ago and I grabbed it, quick. Boy, do I wish I searched a bit harder 2 years ago. This game is absolutely fantastic. I'm probably going to do a full writeup after I finish the first player mode, I think I'm a short ways from the end. It should be said that the death of companies that can produce as tight a game as Startopia is a sad, sad death.

To be short however, Startopia is the sims + a better AI, Warcraft II + a better AI, and Simcity all rolled into one.

I'm pretty confident I should be blaming Eidos for the death of Mucky Foot. The last thing they needed from me was more hate considering the other shit they put out.

Edit: Here's a link to Mucky Foot which has a pretty funny page of quotes up, but more importantly, the entire old web page is there with the bonus level for Startopia and a 1.01b patch with some much needed updates, including graphics tweaks.

Amazon has 10 used/new copies starting at $2.92. I will surely be buying this to have an actual copy.

Yep, gotta like Startopia.  I finished all the scenarios and built a complete space station at least once.   You do eventually hit a wall of having done everything the game has to offer, but it's a fun ride while it lasts.   It is a shame about Muckyfoot, although I can't say Urban Chaos held a candle to Startopia.

If you like Startopia, you may also enjoy Space Colony.   It's not quite as open ended, but initial the Sims-like impressions are soon overshadowed by something actually entertaining, and you'll start feeling some Theme Hospital and even Startopia-ish vibe after awhile.    I had felt motivated write a little review on it.

Damn, the cover of the Startopia box and the Space Colony box are near identical. Yick. I hope this remains a rare occurence as Hollywood has taken to almost every genre having a template.

Except for films by lucas where the official posters end up looking like ass (except the Anakin casting the shadow of Darth on the Tatooine rock one).

I love Startopia.  True about the short game length; takes a few days to beat all the scenarios and play a sandbox game.  Still, you have to love the wacky British humor (humour!) and the city-building.

Great fun.  You can't go wrong if you like that type of game.  The price is now certainly right.  Get it now!
