For those playing this, the latest version out is .711, which can be found here.

Haven't played it myself.  As is common, install will kill your old saved games.  There is also a .711 upgrade to the mod system, there is a link on page 5 of the thread, which is otherwise mostly people cheerleading for the new release.

I'm still downloading the full patch (still on .704, myself, several behind), so I have no idea as to the changes to expect.

Ooh! I might have to download it and play again. I lost my old account when my HDD went tits up, but M&B is worth paying for. Post if/when you have played and let us know how it is.

I'll just wait to play until they actually release this game.  I'm tired of the damn arena and river pirates. Zzzzzzzz

It will be a bit, I'm downloading via modem, because extended unemployment sucks balls.  Probably won't have any comments until at least tomorrow.

There are also some mod tools out there, as well as mods like the Magnificent Seven heroes only mod, and a LoTR mod.

recent mod system changes thread

Map Editor Thread

A mod installer script

The sticky thread when new versions are announced  The 'check for new version button' didn't tell me about .710/.711 coming out, so you might want to check this now and again.

The changes from .7xx to .711 should;d be minor; if you haven't played the .7xx series there are some new battle maps vs .632, and some sort of change to shield blocking.  The major point of .7xx was to provide official mod tools using Python, which is a work in progress.  I've downloaded them, but I need to do some programming for cash before I muck with modding anything.

Lemming, I consider the play I've already gotten out of the game worth the $11 it cost me (price is now $14).  River pirates ain't spit compared to Sea Raiders, Black Kergit Horsemen, and the Dark Knights.

I got a little play in, probably it till the weekend.  Game is still pretty much the same, except that the damage messages that used to appear in combat have been suppressed.  I suppose there may be some way to get them back, but I don't much miss them; gives the whole thing a bit more suspense and excitement.  Does make it harder to evaluate combat, although it seemed easier to me.  Could just be I've got more practice, rather than any change to the game.

I'm still at the low end, so I haven't seen the map or much of the higher end game.  There are incremental changes here and there, but I expect the game to be still in it's beta state, with a few less bugs and a wee bit more content.

AC1 arrows had physics and would persist for a short time where they hit. There were some interesting screenshots, which I don't care to find, of dozens of arrows stuck in the earth where large battles occured.

Why have MMO's gotten worse?

Fucking general public...

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

AC1's arrows were only 1/8th as cool. They should last at least until combat is over.

There's also a LOTR themed mod brewing up and getting quite promising, gameplay and art -wise.
The dev is quite mod-friendly, I partly reverse-engineered the 3d model format and hacked together a basic importer/exporter and then , rather than sending hate mail or ignoring it, he sent some more info about what's in there.

I think ac1 had the best implmentation of bows and crossbows in any mmrpg I have seen. It was always fun shooting elemental arrows just to see them fly and cuve just as you would expect an arrow to fly. I believe they also stuck into people and the ground so after the fight was done you could collecte a percentage of your arrows. Some would break and be lost but usually if you missed the arrows were recoverable.

AC1 did a lot of stuff 'the best'. It's a damn shame that Turbine in 2005/2006 has NO IDEA what those things were.
