I'd read in here somewhere someone saying something about crashing when harvesting, or some such.  I'm considering picking this up, as I'm very close to the burn-out point in CoH again.  I'm a bit concerned about the crashing issue.  I'd rather avoid that if I can...  So, what I'm asking, is there a problem with ATI cards(Specifically 9600 Pro) in WoW?  Any particular driver version, or whatever?

Thanks,
Alkiera

It's really just two zones that you hit in the 40+ range.  Zoning in to blackrock spire I got a lot of lockups that would usually have me fall into a pit of lava. Searing Gorge has one particular area that if you hunt around/ look in the direction of in a certain range it'll crash the ATI driver entirely.   Dunno if they've fixed this or not, since I just swapped out my old nVidia card instead.

Edit: Doh it's Searing Gorge, not Burning Steppes.  I confuse those two a lot.

I have a 9800pro AIW and i sometimes get driver "resets" where the card locks up and then does a sofware reset.  But it only happnes in Searing Gorge area, and only when looking in a specific area.

I did 43-49 or so in Searing Gorge with an X800 Pro and I've never crashed.  At work atm so I can't tell you the driver version I have, but this thread reminds me I haven't updated the driver in a few months..

I've never gone into blackrock spire, but I assume I will be heading there soonish..

I had issues in one system with a 9800 Pro... all issues turned out to be heat and/or overclocking issues. At the time I wasn't in any of those zones, and I always use the latest drivers. Once I brought stuff closer to stock speeds, everything normalized. System using a X800XT has never had a single hiccup, in any zone.

I have used a 9600 almost my entire time in WoW and haven't had any such problems. The only time I ever had lockup problems with WoW was in the first month of release, I was running an AMD CPU that was overclocked. I turned off the OCing and the problems went away.

The card I had problems with was a 9800 ATI Pro.

I should also note, however, that 1) I didn't realize at the time I needed to update my BIOS from 128 to 256 video ram and 2) My computer only has 512MB of ram because I'm NOT spending $300 for another 512 of RDRAM.

I've since reinstalled that card (since I couldn't play America's Army with the old nVidia) and with the BIOS memory increased and turning-down the texture detail just a tick or two I haven't had a problem in about 4 days.
