Regardless of whether or not it's two letters and a hyphen (and it is, in fact, a bit more than that), it still requires a patch to the client in order for your game to recognize that there is a new realm ruleset in place. Your client can't recognize a realm ruleset that isn't in its current list.
I can attempt to will the option into place, but I don't think that's going to happen.
Therefore, it needs to be patched in. Smaller patches are only composed for emergency, game-breaking situations, and though I understand many of you have been waiting anxiously for such a realm to exist, their lack is not game-breaking as we define it. Game-breaking is a constant client crash or an exploitable spell/ability. Because it is a feature and not a horrendous bug, it will not get its own offshoot patch.
They will come around the time that 1.7 is live.
-Caydiem
That means that they have to patch in the ability to chose an RP/PVP server, and since it's not game breaking, they are rolling it into the 1.7 patch. It also means that once the ability to chose a server is patched in, we have to wait for the servers to actually come up. I would expect 1 or 2 to begin, then another 1 or 2 a week later when they find that those 2 servers are causing game breaking problems for other servers. In short, don't hold your breath. Edit: From this link, be sure to dodge teh stupid.

A lot of people bitch too much.
They probably want to get blizzard to give hunters their 3% DPS on crits back.

A lot of people haven't paid attention to Blizzard's patch history in the past. 2 months is good for them. I will say it again, Blizzard makes fun games, but has no idea how to run a service.

Two RP-PVP servers tomorrow (9/13) We're pleased to announce that we'll be releasing two new realms tomorrow after the morning's scheduled maintenance, which is slated to conclude at approximately 11AM PST. These two new realms will be part of the new RP-PvP realm type. The names of these realms are as follows:
Emerald Dream Maelstrom
So get out that pad and paper and begin brainstorming ideas for a good name to call your new character!

Emerald Dream - Faggy Maelstorm - Cool sounding
Do we want the one that sounds RP or the one that sounds PVP?
Edit: read a little on the forums in WoW, and it looks like a few 100+ guilds will be joining up on Maelstorm. Only noise I've heard about Emerald Dream is that the PA RP guild is joining up there hordeside.

The one with the faggy name seems like it would be less likely to have a queue.

The one with the faggy name seems like it would be less likely to have a queue. True, it also sounds like it will have the most Night Elves to kill. On the downside, the PA-RP guild will be there.

Maelstrom
Btw, do the queues still tend to be as bad as when the kiddies were on summer break?

so, 1 for Maelstorm, 1 for Emerald Dream (ED).
ED - 3 M - 2
Edit for math.

I'm all for ED. The PA guild being there would be a bonus, imo. While the PVP servers tend to be more balanced, I expect more kiddies on Maelstrom who will then get bored and move away as their dreams of OMGWTFPWNING RPers en-mass hit reality, thus leaving any who stick around wondering how to get an AV or a decent raid going. The PA guild being on ED would give you just one guild of asswipes to avoid instead of multiple 100+ers.

As demonstrated by: This. Also, the peeps from www.pvprp.com (~600 members) are going Maelstorm. I'm voting ED as well since ED stands for erectile dysfunction.

Who cares what that dork writes. Maelstrom has a cooler name. THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS.

It's not like we're asking you to play on the Fairy server in FFXI or anything...

The server name doesn't matter to me nearly as much as the server performance/population.
So based on what I've read I vote ED.
P.S. - I admit ED does sound more faggy than Maelstrom.

I came up with all that just based on what I know about WOW's population and the folks who gravitate towards PVP in general. That's frightening.

I played with the PA guild on my server. They are a decent bunch to fight against. Now the SA guilds are onces to avoide. I have been thinking of the pros and cons of each for a while.
ED - faggy name. less kiddies. Less pvp in BGs. MS - cool name. more kiddies, more pvp, more people, = less wait for BGs.
I think ED is going to be the one. I dont really want to join a server with a bunch of 100+ member guilds starting off on it.

It's not like we're asking you to play on the Fairy server in FFXI or anything... I know. It's just that I'd prefer the one that has a better chance of attracting more pvp minded rp'ers than not. Those people, as silly as it sounds, would gravitate towards a "Maelstrom" rather than a "Emerald Dream". As for these other people...I really don't care what they say. It's not like they're going to be doing anything [EDIT] The l33t kiddies, I mean...Or whatever they are.

Yea I don't have to head off for work until the afternoon so I'll jump on after they fire the servers up.
Unsure of name or class yet. I have spent this interim time playing some classes I hadn't tried. Made me rethink what I might want to play.
Anyway I'll post here or XFire people, etc. etc.

I thought The Goon Squad was Something Awful and PA was Hidden Trash Village.
I really hope the Goons arnt on our server, there is so many of them, they totally throw the population WAYYYYYY out of wack.
The last server they where on, they had over 600 members, and it pushed the horde/alliance population over 2/1.
