I just got a beta invite for Irth Online.

www.irthonline.com

I have no idea how or why I got the invite, but what the heck.  Anyone know anything about this game and/or the developers?  I may try it out as long as it does not cut into my Everquest 2 time (which by the way now has a free week for all accounts cancelled before July 8th!).

Edit.  Reading the website, which is still light on information.  This though is in the FAQ and has arisen interest in my cold, jaded heart:

What makes Irth Online original to other MMORPG's out in the market?

Irth Online has many features in game that we believe people are looking for in an MMORPG. Some of these features include:

Open Based SKill System, no level grinding
Player Housing, not instanced
Large Playable world
Civ Wars
Interactive Environment
Live Content
Detailed Crafting System

I hate the level mentality in 99.999999% of all current games on the market.  I like me some skills!!!!  Skill based development was one thing that made UO what it was (going item based ruined any chance of EVER re-subbing to that shithole).  For this reason alone I will check it out.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

I didn't like it at all.  I'm sure there's a thread around here about it.

PS  They do send out a lot of email!

I found this thread: http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=3704.0

But no others.  Either my search skills need buffed or there is no useful thread.

That is ambiguous.  Can you give us a general impression without breaking the NDA? I mean patching often could be good, bad, or ugly.

Well, I've not looked at it in around a month. They don't have a whole lot in the game yet, and not much going for them.

However, I'd get home from work and see about 4-5 paragraphs worth in the main window of the patcher, describing what they've been working on today and the 2-5 different updates theyve done to the client. Just in that one day.

It was like that for the entire week that I tried to test, but like I said there wasn't much substance there. They are trying, though.

Maybe the thread was on a different board.  It was a while back but it was actually quite long.  I'll let you know if I remember where I saw it, but I do remember it being very negative.  But then, what isn't?

I too got this beta invite out of the blue.  I must have signed up quite a long time ago because for quite some time now I have pretty much avoided the random sign up for every beta and then forget about it phase.

I'm feeling somewhat masochistic enough atm to give it a go.

Tell you what.  Jump in the cold water, let me know how it is, and if it is not to bad I will give it a whirl.  I have no idea how I got into the beta; I imagine Schild or another sick fuck donated my e-mail just to mess with my head.  And to give me e-herpes.

Been downloading it for the last 6 hours, will have to try it when I get back from work.

Things on the boards I have been reading dont sound too promising though.  Seems like there is still quite a lot to be added in.

Actually, I can explain why we all just got emails from them. Apparently they've both purchased the emails collected by the people behind Wish, as well as some of their art.

Smart, I suppose. But also quite, quite lame.

F  is inviting you to start Quarto. Do you want to Accept (Alt+C) or Decline (Alt+D) the invitation?

If I'm not mistaken this dev team used to work on the Sphere UO emulator. They spam me too. I blacklisted them a long time ago.

I'm pretty sure most MMORPG business meetings in which they are discussing starting an alpha/beta go something like this:

VP Marketing - Allright have we got a list of people who have beta'd other games?
Flunkie - Check.
VP Marketing - Did we open a registration web site to tease all the other slobs with the hope of getting in?
Flunkie - You bet.
VP Marketing - Did we whore ourselves out to fileplanet to give them beta access?
Flunkie - Yes sir.
VP Marketing - Oh, and you did of course tell Signe right?
Flunkie - Sir, please, I'm not an idiot, of course I invited Signe.
VP Marketing - Good, maybe we should buy her a new computer to run it on so that she likes us.
Flunkie - Brilliant idea boss!

Might've been cool 10 years ago, pretty damn sucky by today standards. The interface was like a maze, the combat was boring, the graphics are poor. Only thing which was really cool was that I could mount a horsie at lvl 1.

I was turned off as soon as I heard it was the old sphere crowd; they've been a dysfunctional and at best marginally talented bunch for as long as I was ever involved in Sphere.  I blocked their emails over a year ago.

I dont think the graphics are that bad, but they arent great either and lack any character.  There is no real interface, at all.  I think with some persistence you can craft a somewhat useable approximation of one but thats about it.  It feels lifeless, hopefully there is still a lot of beta to go...it needs a lot more added.  I think i will wait some time before i log in again.

I had not been drinking but after trying to play for a bit and thinking back, it seems like I was.  You know, things are blurry, you stood around a lot looking stupid, there was some nausea....
