I want to buy my daughter this pink Nintendo DS:
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=&products_id=6555

but I don't know what the difference is between a DS made for the US and one made for Japan.  If there's anyone with that special geeky knowledge to share, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is.  I looked at the specs and it is region free so you can play games that you've purchased anywhere.

And boobies.

IIRC you can change the language on the DS. I'd check mine but I haven't charged it since the batteries died (2 weeks ago). As far as regions go, there's no problem. Also, a red one is probably going to be coming out in the states Decemberish.

You can change the language to English and the Lik-sang page above includes the instructions at the bottom. My main concern with getting that one would be whether or not you can get it exchanged if it has too many dead pixels and what to do with it if it breaks within the warrenty period. They have some vague rules about returns on their Help page but I would ask them more specific questions about how they handle hand-held hardware returns, if at all.

Both Lik-Sang and Playasia have decent return policies. I would say Playasia is the better store to deal with. I've dealt with both, but I have an order coming that I probably could have gotten at either place and I chose the latter.

The only difference between the US and JP Nintendo DS is that the Japanese version comes with Japanese language manuals and the default system language is Japanese (but can be changed to English). It can play games from any region, and can play wireless games with DSes from other regions (assuming both games are of the same region).

Well, there's all that but in the Japan version of the DS you get tentacle raped if you lose.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

Portable games don't have regions. The Nintendo DS specifically has no region protection of any form. The PSP has it for movies but all games are region free.

I think the only difference is the 110/220 problem. I'm not sure if you can just plug an American charger into a Japanese DS.

Finally got a chance to check:

Lik-Sang is at $169.90.

PlayAsia is at $149.99.

LikSang has free shipping. Shipping at PlayAsia costs $5.40 (and you can add more stuff in). You could get the one at PlayAsia with 3 day shipping for the price of the Lik-Sang one.

Get this at PlayAsia to match the DS in the same shipment and it should STILL cost less than Lik-Sang.

The DS doesn't care -- it's running on DC current. Or more specifically as long as the AC to DC adapter is outputing the right DC amperage and voltage and the plug into the DS has the right design and polarity it doesn't matter what's coming out of the wall socket. The Lik-sang version comes with an 110V adapter so there's no problem there.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

There's a real Xanthippe?

EDIT: Yes, it appears so. She was Socrates' wife and a matron of Ancient Greece. Oddly, she was said to be the personification of a nagging wife.  undecided

She was more than a mere nag, she was an irritable shrew, and apparently the source of Socrates's inspiration when he said, "Marry or marry not, in any case you'll regret it."

Alas, I can only aspire to Signe's greatness when it comes to booby images.

I mostly just post edible boobies.  I hate boobies myself... they're always in the way of something... but edible boobies are ok, I guess.  (all the boys in this forum are distracted by boobies so sometimes you can get them to do stuff for you before they realise that your boobies are really just cauliflowers)
