My Warrior has blacksmithing and mining.  Upon hearing a few nice things about the support value of having engineering, I am considering dumping mining for it.  Do any of you recommend doing this?  I imagine I can always have an alt do the mining for me.  Does high end mining have any BOP items or anything?

Do you really want to level an alt to 40 just to mine for you?  And not to mention most thorium is in 50+ zones.  Mining has no BOP, but you're only going to get high level gems from it or you're going to have to buy from the AH.

Although, realistically, engineering is hella easy to level up and not that resource expensive.  You could  get everything you need from the AH without it getting too overly expensive.

Right now the shaman is 300 mining/herb and the rogue is 300 alch/285 eng (I lazy) and it's worked out pretty well  :-D

I wouldn't want to get a toon to 40 just for the sole purpose of mining, but I enjoy playing a range of characters, and some of them will reach that level eventually, anyway.  I already have five alts in their 20's (though that's only a couple days' work for each one.)

Do Engineers have combat pets?  Grenades?  Snowball machines?  Also, does it split apart into different specializations like Blacksmithing does?

My 300 Tailor is currently the bread winner for everybody, so buying from the AH won't pose a problem, at least until the upper 200's.  None of the other tradeskills I've dabbled with have been worth shit, so far.  It seems that its much more lucrative to be a gatherer.  So a Miner/Skinner or HG alt probably wouldn't be a total waste on its own right.

Damn.  This makes an obscene amount of sense.  Well, it would if I could level a damn alt past 15.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

Grenades? Check.  Rather useful too.
Combat pets? Check. (Useful? dunno)
Snowball machines? Think so but that was only xmas.

Yes, it does split.  You have goblin which is more focused on bombs and AE and then gnomish which is more geared toward single target.   I love my goblin rocket helm and my dragon gun which allows me to kinda fill in some AE in areas like DM and Strath.  People crack up laughing when they see a rogue bust out some AE pwnage with a giant stream of flame coming off his finger tips.  I'd probably rather have the death ray, net gun, mind control cap and other goodies from the gnomish line for some great pvp utility.

It gets easier if you find that the character you played to level 60 fits into a not very fun role in your chosen activities.  Leveling compulsion helps too.  But then again, none of my other alts are past level 12.

So get some, goblin engineering only means you can't make them, you can still use any engineer made item.

Beware that with the pvp trinkets that can break stun and charm effects, the goblin rocket helm and gnomish mind control cap are somewhat diminished in usefulness.

I have considered doing the same thing, but waiting until 60 and mad riches so that I can just buy gems and materials off the AH.  For PvP I'd think that engineering/smithing would be a good (warrior) endgame setup.

Witty banter not included.

I'm so getting rid of mining today.
