Watched it with my housemates on Friday, and while I enjoyed the film, they were mostly confused or bored for the majority of the film. This may actually be a point it its' favor towards Best Picture.
I watched it with the wife tonight. I found myself distracted constantly by the amazing camerawork. It was amazing and claustrophobic and Ed Norton got robbed.
I watched this on a flight a few days ago. I kind of regret not seeing it in the cinema not because it needs the big screen but I kind of wish I'd validated it with a ticket purchase. Really, really good film but one I would kind of hesitate to recommend simply due to the artsiness of it.

I'll never hesitate to recommend artsy films as it's a good way to know if I'll get along with people. When an ex-girlfriend & her mom turned off Barton Fink because it 'wasn't funny' and did nothing but deride Naked Lunch because "it was weird" I knew it was over.
The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.
I think Birdman is the kind of artsy movie that even people who don't usually like artsy movies can enjoy. It's so frantic, fun to look at, and well acted that it can be enjoyed even without appreciating the more esoteric moments.
