This is another one of those limited release type Sundance movies that will sporadically get shown based on popularity.  Similar to Moonrise Kingdom, which seems to have earned showings just about anywhere, this one is starting to creep up all over the country.  I've been waiting for a while to see it and will likely within the next few days but by all indications it's a glorious film and creeped in JUST in time to win "best in show" at Sundance essentially.

Impoverished Southern mythology meets a child's whimsical imagination at the end of the world.  Nuff said. Go see.

edit: Oh wait!  soundtrack just released.  Oscar-worthy.

I loved it, thought it was a beautiful movie and damn that girl should win the Academy Award, flat out.

FWIW, however, my wife and daughter really disliked it. I thought it was life-affirming, they found it depressing. I thought it was spiritually rich, they thought it romanticized poverty. So YMMV.

Some of my monkeys saw it and we came to the same conclusion, it was a good movie, but there's too much trade in the, "Little ethnic kid suffers and its life affirming" angle.

That said, beautifully shot and yes, the kid was fucking amazing.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

Those of you that saw it, why did you go see it? Just watched the trailer and nothing in it makes me want to go see this movie.

This has been happening a lot in Hollywood over the last 10-15 years.

Anyway, for you all, this is an Aurochs.

Can't remember a 6-7 yr. old having a stronger performance than Wallis had in this film.  Definitely not as the leading role.
Not sure if I liked it more than Moonrise Kingdom but I'll say it was a better 'film' (and affected me more) than MK.  If that makes any sense.

It's definitely worth seeing regardless if you can find it.
