I heard that a new law goes into effect in Japan next month which could make it rather difficult to sell electronics made before 2002.  Japan was never synonymous with "used electronics", but this might make some old things cheaper if you are into importing.  It is called the "PSE law" I believe.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

Actually Japan is big on used electronics. That's basically what Akiahabara is - a big used electronics district.

Yup. There are some things that can still be sold, but for the most part, retail outlets are fucked. Can't complain though, I've been calling this hell down upon EB/Gamestop/whatever for a long time now.

It's bad but it's not the end of the used market. As with any complicated law these days there are loopholes and ways around the various restrictions (e.g. leased equipment is exempt) which you can read more about here, here, and here.

What?  Why?  To maintain a faster product development cycle?

To be fair to Akihabara, there's just as much new shit you can buy there as used.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

Hm.  Japan's government is running like a MMG development company.
