BTW our server is still down -- waiting for things to stabilize before bringing back up. Make sure you back up your ship files if you play somewhere else.

Server finally back up now that Hotfix 5 has been released. Play at your own risk (and backup first!) as the devs have no idea what's working or not working in this latest patch

Play at your own risk (and backup first!) as the devs have no idea what's working or not working in this latest patch Good advice, but I loaded the game right after the game was updated My ship's storage container just vanished and never came back. There wasn't anything really important in there, but the locker itself is worth its weight in gold, imo. Do you know if there's a way of at least recreating an empty locker?

There are mods that can create items for you. Or if you can find a world that has a locker on our server just let me know and I can pack up the universe files for you so you can play it locally and dup items* to your heart's content.
* Your personal items are stored separately from the universe files so you can put items from the world into your inventory, save and quit, restore the world files and the items will be back for you to take again.

The way that was suggested to me was to delete the shipfile (located in something like steam/steamapps/common/starbound/player/*.shipworld). That way your ship will regenerate to it's default state the next time you start the game. If you've got anything on the ship (decorations, forges, etc.) put it in your pocket before you do this or it'll be deleted. Anything that was in the locker is pretty much vapor now, though.
I gotta say, that last patch seems like quite a fuckup. Our group ran in to a problem that corrupted the universe and caused spontaneous crashes, so we had to wipe not only the ships, but the universe, too. Our base is gone, our ships are gone, we can't go anywhere except Alpha (and even couldn't go there until the patch yesterday). Ugh. I think I'm the only one who didn't ragequit when they found out we all had nothing but the contents of our pockets when the patch hit.

I have not yet launched Starbound since the fuckup. Is it safe to launch yet?

This worked great for the Linux version of the game, although there was a /root/ thrown in that path somewhere. Thanks!

Seriously, this one is chock full of features...err, wait, that's riddled with bugs. I swear if I run into them at GDC this year, there will be words...about better practices.

2/10 WOULD NOT INGEST
|
I assume that's what the devs are thinking.

Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone

Sounds like they're taking some steps to prevent a repeat, at least: We’re changing the way we do releases slightly. There will be a new “unstable” branch which you can select on steam, which will receive updates sooner than the regular branch that you get when you install starbound.
