40 minutes and we are done...   why so serious?

Splatoon actually looked kinda fun.

Guarantee they use this amiibo shit on a Pokemon game in 2015 which will be the only place it will ever be used.

I dunno, that Xenogears rpg plus the new Zelda look pretty good. Add to that the standard Marios and Pikmin and to me it's starting to justify a 200 euro console.

Splatoon was the only thing that looked somewhat fun and innovative. Well except for the squid thing... They could have just called it swim or fast travel and it would have been fine.

Somehow they have managed to make the sequel to Xenoblade, one of my favourite games of the last 10 years, look like a dreadful bog-standard anime robot filled pile of nonsense.

Hugely impressive feat and a shame since I was honestly contemplating getting a Wii U just for that game.

Captain Toad levels were the best part of Super Mario 3D World, which was the best thing I played last year. A whole game of those levels sounds great.

They also announced a sequel to Kirby's Canvas Curse, which was one of the best DS games and is the only good Kirby game.

Aside from the Amiibo shit, that was a great showing.

The E3 trailer definitely had more of a Xenogears/Xenosaga feel to it but the gameplay does look like Xenoblade:

So. Has anything been shown, PC-wise, that I should be excited about? There's so much uninteresting console... stuff (self-edit)... to wade through... ugh undecided

Merchandising dream come true. They will be able to print money once they get the Pokemon amiibo created. Sell them for $20-40 a pop? Yep. Whoever came up with this idea and got it to work with the WiiU did Nintendo a huge favor.

Oddly, it was apparently announced that Itagaki's next game Devil's Third is a Wii U exclusive.

When the WiiU hits $150 or less I think I might be on board for smash with the GC adapter. That likely won't happen.

You can get a refurb 32gb model straight from Nintendo for $200. That's close enough I think - and given the recent boost in popularity from MK8 I doubt they'll have refurb inventory much longer.

I'll end up buying one soonish I'm sure for the same reason I've bought the last few systems.  Great local multiplayer games, Mario, Zelda, etc...

Better value than an XBone.

I just looked through the list of stuff unveiled at E3. Video Games suck.

The entry-level configuration for the Alienware Alpha will start with an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GBs of RAM, 500GB of HDD storage, and a custom GTX-class Nvidia GPU based upon the Maxwell architecture with 2GBs of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM.

Is that actually any good for that price point? I have no idea what spec/costs are like these days.

Hard to say without knowing the exact specs. Making an educated guess, the component cost for somebody like you or me (i.e. not purchased in volume) would be around:

i3-4150 CPU: $125 [1]
Mini ITX LGA 1150 MB: $80
2x2 GB RAM: $50
GTX 750 Ti 2 GB GDDR5 GPU: $130 [2]
2.5" 500 GB HD: $50
Mini ITX PS: $60
Mini ITX case: $60
Windows 8.1 OEM: $100 [3]
Wireless Xbox 360 controller: $45
Wireless controller receiver: $10 [4]

TOTAL: $710

[1] They are probably using a "T" model for lower power consumption/heat generation but those are harder to find for individuals
[2] There are no specs for the custom Maxell GPU so I picked the cheapest model with 2 GB GDDR5 RAM that's widely available
[3] Gotta love the Microsoft tax
[4] Just a guess

I'll bet that this is using the Core i3 4010U or something very similar - basically a laptop part.  It's the same thing in the i3 Intel NUC mini PCs.

That thing is slow and expensive. It also has horrible PCI-e support. The case they are displaying has enough space for a regular desktop-class CPU and cooler. There's no need for a laptop-style CPU.

You're probably right, though my assumption of laptop part usage was based on the size of the case, which looks to be about 10" wide and 3" tall based on the relative size of the USB ports (assuming the pictures that they've used are accurate).

A 1U server rack case is 1.75-inches tall. That's still tall enough to fit a server-class CPU with a low-profile heat sink and cooler.

To cap off E3, a "leaked" Bloodbourne gameplay trailer.

http://www.onlysp.com/new-trailer-leaked-ps4-exclusive-bloodborne-looks-fantastic/

bonus: really great Giant Bomb behind the scenes kind of video. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/e3-2014-coverage-uncovered/2300-9132/ The amount of faux secrecy among exhibitors is weird. Don't film our logo motherfucker!

About the only interesting thing I've seen out of this E3 was the No Man's Sky stuff. That almost looks awesome enough to want a PS4. Almost.

I have a feeling No Man's Sky will make it to PC.  It might take a year after PS4 launch, but it has all the markings of a PC game.

Evolve looks like it could be cool? Maybe? With really solid balance.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

So I downloaded the Battlefield: Hardline beta tonight. This kind of... well, it sucks. It's like Battlefield with less sense and more floatiness.

EDIT: To elaborate, this scenario just doesn't work for the BF mentality. It's like replaying the big fight scene from the end of Heat over and over again, only there's an almost endless supply of criminals as well as cops. The player models are HORRIBAD especially compared to the normal BF ones. They animate badly and the movement feels all janky. I have no idea why they thought this would be a good idea other than seeing GTAV money and thinking "I want some of that."
