Seems like it is more of a brazing than welding. Not that in an emergency it wouldn't be nice.

Nah, that is not brazing at all.

They might have problems with cold-transfer but it is definitely a full-on stick welding. They are just using a straight DC source instead of a transformer. 


'Reality' is the only word in the language that should always be used in quotes.

I have a nice MIG welder I use on my projects.  It's one of those "nice to have" things in your garage.
