Hey hey HEY! Respect your elders...that used to be cutting edge shit right there! If you hated that, I'd steer clear of EQ1, UO and AC1...
I miss sitting down and staring at my spell book too! I'm not saying I'm a fan of such things, but back then it was either stare at a spellbook or GTFO. At least EQ had the decency to remove that 'feature' after enough people actually got the fuck out and played their competitor's game

I was agreeing with you while also being snarky. I loved DAoC, EQ, and UO. Sadly, Rift has ruined any thought of going back to the older titles. They haven't aged well.

Ah, no worries :). Yeah...makes you wonder if anything that DAoC would embrace the F2P model, but I'm pretty sure something like that would have to make a lot of changes to things that are 'hard-coded'

Man there's some funny love of daoc here.
I enjoyed my time playing DAOC. But looking back? I enjoyed the people I met and still play games with. The actual combat system and horrible grind? Yeah, no. Mechanics wise, I can't think of anything they did RIGHT. Spammable low cost AE interrupts? Check. Hilarious interrupt system in general? Check. Hilariously overpowered casters if not shut down by said hilarious interrupt system? Check. Absolutely stupid "more people = higher hit chance/damage amount per person" system? Check.
It was fun because the servers were small enough to have a sense of community, and it was a crazy high drama game. But it was fun because of who you played it with.

DAoC was my first love of MMOs. Yeah, it had it's flaws, which over time and poor addressing from the devs resulted in my hatred for those flaws + the newer MMOs coming down the pike overpowered my love, but it was still my first. I still have yet to find a game that has the class diversity that DAoC offers, esp. when the mantra now is to do more with less and condense/homogenize everything.

You've said this before but DAOC's class diversity was terrible. Just because you have 44 classes doesn't mean they're interesting or diverse; if anything they were mostly diluted and boring.

I enjoyed the classes. I leveled almost all of them to level 50. The joy was in trying to make an odd combination of an 8 man group while still remaining competitive. I miss my VW and Skald!

On the other hand, Theurgist is still one of my favorite classes ever just because of their one unique schtick.

Spamming elementals to increase the attacker count on epic mobs? I personally love GW Ritualists because they remind me of hilarious Animist bullshit.

That's actually one of the more damning things Mythic did in DaoC, the animist and valewalker? Those are classes built on the ideas on how to improve things like Theurgists and Thanes.
I remember reading about the animist part for part, in the Theurgist TeamLead reports over the months/years. The Valewalker is clearly a "Hey, Thanes are an awesome concept, and shitty implementation, instead of fixing thanes, lets make a new more aweosme thane++ class!"

Fix theurgists by merging them with wizards. Tia.

One of the reasons why the ice pets were my favorite. I had the only Theurgist I know that specced 41 Ice (best ice pet) / 35 Earth (second best bladeturn). Most other people went Air for the nuke for some reason. If you wanted to just straight up nuke, why play a Theurgist? Just play a Wizard!
