So some masochistic desire has risen in me to play ATiTD again in what is now Tale 5. I was just wondering if there were any F13ers here who are already having thier testes smashed on a daily basis. :)

This. I loved this game in tale 1, but hated tales 2 and 3 so much that I never finished them nor went back. If the game bans the use of macros, returns to open camps, and gets rid of levels... then I'll go back. In other words, I'm not going back.

well, that only took 4 hours this time; head to a region, ask around about guilds and was basically told 'no, go back the way you came'.
No wonder they only have 800 paid accounts.
Christ, they are more friendly in WURM, and they hate newbies.

Every so often I get the urge to make bricks. I don't know why.
Still looking for the ultimate craftastic game.

I find the game very appealing, but every tale I start out and within two weeks, I'm six months behind. The old guard who apparently can play 24/7 just grind through the tech at an insane rate.

Fixed. They have elaborate macros to burn through things. They also have built in voting networks that will collude on voting to advance their leveling faster. It's a very clique-driven game and your ability to succeed depends heavily on knowing all of the right people. Both are the primary reason that I left the game once I got to a certain development point. People in this game are very helpful until the point where they deem you a threat. Then they do everything they can to sandbag you... there is a definite class structure among players.

I don't know that the game has much to do with it. It's really just the way the playerbase approaches the game. Don't get me wrong... the game contains a very mature and engaging player base. They just have a very Stepford wives feel to them. You're either in or your out with regard to some of the higher level tech contests/trees. Edit: Take what I say with a grain of salt. I stopped playing in the third telling when I saw idiots winning votes on things due more to their established base than because they were merit worthy. It reminded me too much of the Homecoming queen mentality we see in American politics.

I only ask, because any game with in game politics seems to have this kind of problem, or, is it a problem? In game politics lead to out of game rallying and campaigning. Thoes in turn effect in game outcomes. I think this comes with any game that has levels of position, especially those that are user voted, Kings, Pharaohs, Gods..what have you. The politics are part of the game in this way.
Just another form of PvP.

It's definitely pvp. It's also part of the price you pay for playing in a sandbox. King-of-the-hill certainly plays a role.

I played until mid December. Techs had started to slow and the only body test that really interested me was cock-blocked.
By my last login a the end of December, Teppy's attention seemed mostly else where. Events were coming fewer and farther between, there is no story line, and the game seems to have reached that phase where it will just drift along with nothing exciting for months and months.
YMMV. Good luck.

No .. Darkest Night.. mushroom hunting. Two of the mushrooms are extremely difficult to find. After spending many many hours finding the first one, I just wasn't up to another two months of fruitless searches for the second.
